Sarah Tishkoff, Ph.D. Professor in Genetics and Biology at the University of Pennsylvania has done numerous studies on African and African American DNA. Her studies have shown that the average African American is between 15 to 20% white and that a small percent of blacks have Native American ancestry. Most, if not all, have a mixed background. We don’t acknowledge it because of the “drop of black blood rule”. It’s your choice as an individual to either continue that perspective or acknowledge your past. To me, ignoring that part of my heritage is ignoring the results of slavery and its effects on my everyday life.
