Vivien Leigh was a British actress. She twice won the Academy Award for Best Actress, for Gone with the Wind (1939) and A Streetcar Named Desire (1951). She also starred in Caesar and Cleopatra, The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone, and Ship of Fools, among many others.
She was born in India. Her father, Ernest Richard Hartley, was English, and may have been born on the Isle of Islay, Argyll, Scotland or in Bingley, West Yorkshire, England. Her mother, Gertrude M. F. (Yackjee/Yackje), was born in Darjeeling, India.
Vivien had a daughter, actress Suzanne Farrington, with her first husband, barrister Herbert Leigh Holman.
There are at least three different couples referred to by genealogists as Vivien’s paternal grandparents. One couple are Seth Hartley and Sarah Jane Mawson. Seth was born in Calverley, West Yorkshire, England. Sarah was born in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England.
Vivien’s maternal grandfather was named Michael John Yackjee/Yackje (the son of Johannes/John Gabriel Yackjee and Elizabeth). It appears that Michael was of Armenian origin.
Vivien’s maternal grandmother was named Mary Therisa/Teresa/Theresa/I. Robinson (the daughter of James Wilson/Wilston Robinson). Vivien’s maternal grandmother was usually said to be the daughter of Irish parents.

Yackjee is a Parsee name. The Parsees are Indians of Persian origin. A typical Parsee is Freddy Mercury of Queen.

I think it is b/c they usually have bulgy eyes w/big noses and tiny lips which isn’t shared by the Scandinavians, most Germans, and French so close to England.
They try to use their family histories of fine breeding against the North Americans. Their real reason for ugliness is being on an island and not having Native American genes. They really envy the beautiful mixed North American beauties and other countries nearby them that put out some real beauties. Even France is known for beauties but not the Heather Mills, Lady Diana and Stella McCartney types.
Luckily the Irish have other stock in them and the Black Irish are some of the most beautiful people in the world. They bred out the English gene which works for men but not for the women. Sorry, The English Rose doesn’t exist or is a watered down version of a rose from other countries, like Norway and Puerto Rico.

British women are so ugly, right that’s why we have the likes of Kate Winslet, Keira Knightley, Kate Beckinsale, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Kate Moss, Cheryl Cole. I could go on. Also British people are a mixture of Vikings (which are Scandanavian), Normans (which are French), Romans (which are Italians), Anglo-Saxons (which are German) which come from them invading us hundreds of years ago. The British Isles are a melting pot of a lot of European nations over hundreds of years, just like modern day North America!
Actually Holly, women of British decent are VERY UGLY! No offense. my own Theater teacher who was of Irish decent stated that your specific standard of beauty is very bad! I mean most of the women you even mentioned re not pretty, and or have Welsh, and Irish history! Sorry! Plus, on a more elusive note you obviously can find 3 or 4 girls that are pretty but, unfortunately the world outweights you dear!
Actually Jeremy I’m not really bothered what your ‘Theatre Teacher’ says, seems that she’s of Irish descent herself and that most of the Irish hate the English. I have my own opinions of Beauty and there obviously not wrong as most of the women I mentioned above would be considered beautiful by most people in the general population the world over.
Kate Moss doesn’t have Welsh or Irish descent, neither does Kate Winslet or Rosie Huntington-Whiteley who I might add has just been voted World’s Sexiest woman.
I’m not saying English women are the most beautiful women in the world, each nationality and race has beautiful and ugly women so I think that you feel that you have to come on here and bash a nationality of women is completely uncalled for and tasteless.
By the way I am not some racist English person, I am English, but I also have Welsh, Scottish and Irish ancestry too so please don’t patronize me ‘Dear’.

Holly88 There are beautiful women in all countries. There are loads of beautiful English women. You will always get people on the internet saying derogatory things about all nationalities. Also people have so many stereotypes about nationalities. The Irish do not hate the English. Many Irish people have English relatives and Irish and English have been intermarrying for ever. People make sweeping statements and you can’t believe everything that you read.

Vivian Leigh’s mother was rumoured to be of Irish descent, as her maiden name was ‘Yackjee’, which sounds pretty Irish. There’s also rumour’s of her mother’s side of the family having some Indian blood too.
That’s quite funny that you think “Yackjee” sounds Irish. Her mother was fair skinned with auburn hair and blue eyes. She was apparently of Irish descent but I wouldn’t be surprised if she had some Indian blood as well. Vivian’s mother was said to be of Irish descent but it was rumoured that she was of partial Parsi or Armenian descent.
