Tsai Ing-wen

Ethnicity: Chinese [Hakka, Min], one quarter Aboriginal Taiwanese [Paiwan]

Tsai Ing-wen is a Taiwanese politcian. She served as President of the Republic of China, from 20 May, 2016 to 20 May, 2024. She has also been Minister of the Mainland Affairs Council, from 20 May, 2000 to 20 May, 2004, Vice Premier of the Republic of China, from 25 January, 2006 to 21 May, 2007, and Chairperson of the Democratic Progressive Party, from 20 May, 2008 to 29 February, 2012, again, from 28 May, 2014 to 24 November, 2018, and again, from 20 May, 2020 to 26 November, 2022. She is the first female President of Taiwan to have been elected to the office.

Ing-wen is the daughter of Chang Jin-feng and Tsai Jie-sheng. Her father was of half-Hakka Chinese and half-Aboriginal Taiwanese [Paiwan] descent. Her mother was of Min Chinese descent.
