Tsai Ing-wen is the President of the Republic of China, having served in the position, since 20 May, 2016. She was also Vice Premier of the Republic of China, from 25 January, 2006 to 21 May, 2007, and Chairperson of the Democratic Progressive Party, from 20 May, 2008 to 17 March, 2011, from 27 April, 2011 to 14 January, 2012, and from 28 May, 2014 to 24 November, 2018, among other duties.

She is the first female President of the Republic of China to have been elected to the office.

Her father, Tsai Jie-sheng, is of half-Hakka Chinese and half-Aboriginal Taiwanese [Paiwan] descent. Her mother, Chang Jin-feng, is of Min Chinese descent.
