Marcello Mastroianni was an Italian actor.
He was the son of Ida and Ottone Mastroianni. His brother was editor Ruggero Mastroianni and his uncle was sculptor Umberto Mastroianni.
Marcello had a daughter with his wife, actress Flora Carabella; and a daughter, actress and singer Chiara Mastroianni, with his partner, French actress Catherine Deneuve.
Marcello’s paternal grandfather was Vincenzo Mastroianni (the son of Pietro Mastroianni and Angela Redivivo). Pietro was the son of Ferdinando Mastroianni and Carolina Evangelista Rinaldi. Angela was the daughter of Lazzaro Redivivo and Speranza Colella.
Marcello’s paternal grandmother was named Concetta Conte.
Marcello’s mother was typically cited in reference books as having been born Ida Irolle.
There is a web rumor that Marcello’s mother was born Ida Idelson, to a Jewish family, in Minsk, Belarus. Genealogy website Geni.com lists Marcello’s mother as Ida Idelson, from Belarus, the daughter of Moisei Chaimovich Idelson and Malka Solomonovna. It is not clear if this claim is accurate.

Because her mother (Ida Irolle) was born in Arpino, Frosinone, hometown of Cicero, and worked as employee for Bank of Italy. Irolle appears to be a different spelling of Irollo/Irolla that are common in Naples area (Frosinone is in Southern Lazio), thus the Jewish thing is fascinating though of unclear origin.

my sources tell both Marcello’s parents were born in Arpino, Province of Frosinone, Lazio, Italy (near Marcello’s birthplace).
