He also certainly has Irish ethnicity through his grandmother Mary Kate Conroy,as that is an Irish surname.Cunningham can be Irish or Scottish, lots of them in Ireland.

Andrew Johnson and Mary Elizabeth Cunningham were both English. Ringo Starr has no (documented) Irish or Scottish ancestry.

follers April 21, 2016 at 4:27 pm

Are you sure they were English? This link says Johnson was Scottish.

“Cunningham” usually isn’t an English surname, is it?

madman April 21, 2016 at 10:25 pm

Of course I’m not 100% sure, but the genealogy says that they, as well as their fathers at least, were born in Liverpool. Though, you are right in that “Cunningham” indicates Irish ancestry.

But this states that Andrew Johnson was born in Shetland, Scotland. Which genealogy is right?

This is not entirely true. My grandmother was Katherine Starkey. John Alfred Starkey was her uncle. John Starkey was Richard Starkey Senior’s stepfather. He married Annie Bower and adopted Richard, giving him the Starkey name. I am unsure if Bower is the name from Annie’s first marriage or if it’s her maiden name.

According to this page, Ringo’s grandparents married in 1910, and Ringo’s father was born in 1913.

British marriage/birth records confirm this.

minus the blue eyes he looks also arab
i can understand that most people think that he has something semite

Capricious October 8, 2015 at 6:33 am

There are a lot of Semites with blue eyes. It isn’t a rare feature among them.

He looks Assyrian or Lebanese to me. Or at least he can pass as one.

andrew April 21, 2016 at 11:59 am

Average Lebanese/Assyrian don’t look like Ringo. Sorry.

He once received death threats because people though he was Jewish, although to quote Ringo verbatim “The one major fault is, I’m not Jewish.”.

Hilariously enough, he’s the only Beatle of pure English descent.

follers November 13, 2014 at 7:40 am

Well, he got those threats in Quebec, Canada, by French Quebec nationalists who hate the English, so his “pure English descent” would not have appealed to them regardless.

Check7t November 19, 2014 at 9:35 am

Well I assume you know how a decent amount of ethnic European nationalist types feel about Jews.

follers November 19, 2014 at 1:06 pm

This doesn’t have much to do with French-Canadians in Quebec who want to secede from Canada/dislike the English/etc. They are not “ethnic European nationalist types” in the sense that you probably mean it.

pookerella April 10, 2015 at 8:11 pm

Thank you, NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE threatened him for being Jewish, even though he isn’t. His wife is, though.

pookerella April 10, 2015 at 8:10 pm

No such thing as “Pure English Descent.” They are the biggest bunch of mutts in Europe. Completely ironic that so many people who think that way know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about the history of England.

gel July 30, 2015 at 4:57 pm

Absolutely!

He must have Irish ancestry he is from Liverpool there is lots of Irish ancestry there’s is lots of people in Liverpool who are fully Irish and half Irish half English.

Alice August 10, 2014 at 7:10 am

No I don’t think Ringo has Irish ancestry. He is the only one out of the Beatles that doesn’t. There is a lot of Irish ancestry in Liverpool but it doesn’t mean that everyone in Liverpool has to have Irish ancestry.

this article states his maternal great-great-grandfather Andrew Johnson was born in Shetland Isles, Scotland (not in Liverpool) and his wife Mary Cunningham hailed from Ireland

Alice July 7, 2015 at 4:59 am

Even Ringo has Irish. Roman was right. :)

andrew July 7, 2015 at 5:24 am

gel July 30, 2015 at 4:59 pm
