Daron Malakian is an American musician, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and record producer. He is the guitarist, songwriter and second vocalist of heavy metal band System of a Down and as the lead vocalist, lead guitarist and songwriter of rock band Scars on Broadway. Serj Tankian is also a member of System of a Down.

His father, Vartan Malakian, is a painter, dancer, and choreographer. His mother, Zepur (Markarian), is a sculptor. They are ethnic Armenian emigrants, originally from Iraq.
