Trey Edward Shults is an American director, writer, producer, and actor. He has directed and written the films Krisha, in which he also appeared; It Comes at Night, and Waves (2019). His first film spotlighted his maternal aunt, actress Krisha Fairchild.

His father was a Vietnam veteran.

Trey’s paternal grandfather was Francis Melvin Shults (the son of Melvin Tyler Schults and Myrtle Iglehart). Francis was born in Texas. Trey’s great-grandfather Melvin was born in Arkansas, the son of James Isaac Schults and Ida Almeda Merritt. Myrtle was born in Texas, the daughter of James Lowry Iglehart and Eva Louisa Pearce.

Trey’s paternal grandmother was Minnie Neoma McAnally (the daughter of Robert Lamar McAnally and Ida Belle Fisk). Minnie was born in Texas, to parents who were also born there. Robert was the son of Walter William McAnally and Winnie Augusta Jones. Ida was the daughter of James Edwin Fisk and Ida Minnie Huddleston.

Trey’s maternal grandfather was Edward Joseph Fairchild (the son of Leo Anthony Fairchild and Annie Koenig). Edward was born in New Mexico. Leo was born in Louisiana, the son of Edward Josiah Fairchild and Lavicy Iles. Annie was born in New Mexico, the daughter of Johann/John Konig and Josefa/Josie Hoferle.

Trey’s maternal grandmother was Billie Jean Spurlin (the daughter of William Henry Spurlin and Audley Mae Little). Billie Jean was born in Texas. William was born in Alabama, the son of William Jefferson Spurlin and Manda Isabelle Hicks. Audley was born in Texas, the daughter of Martin Luther Little and Lena Mae Johnson.
