Boris Nemtsov was a Russian physicist and liberal politician. He was a proponent of the introduction of capitalism to Russia in the 1990s, and was a prominent opposition figure to the Putin government until his assassination in 2015. He served as Governor of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, from 30 November, 1991 to 17 March, 1997, First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, from 17 March, 1997 to 28 April, 1998 (with Anatoly Chubais), and Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, from 28 April, 1998 to 28 August, 1998.

Boris was the son of Dina Yakovlevna (Eidman) and Yefim Davidovoch Nemtsov, who was from Nizhny Novgorod. He was married to Raisa, until his death.

His mother is Jewish. His father is sometimes described as being of non-Jewish, Russian descent, but it appears that Boris’ paternal grandparents were also Jewish. As an adult, Boris identified his own religion as Russian Orthodox (Christian).

Boris’ paternal grandfather was named David Nemtsov.

Boris’ paternal grandmother was named Zlat Hana/Anna Borisovna Suponitskaya (the daughter of Boruch Sholom Suponitsky and Hasya). Zlat Hana was born in Priluki/Pryluki, Poltavskaya Oblast, Ukraine.

Boris’ maternal grandfather was named Yakov Lev Eidman.
