Martin O’Malley is an American politician. A member of the Democratic Party, he served as Mayor of Baltimore, from December 7, 1999 to January 17, 2007, and Governor of Maryland, from January 17, 2007 to January 21, 2015.

He was a candidate for the Democratic Party’s nomination for President of the United States in 2016.

Martin is married to Baltimore City District Court judge Katie (Curran) O’Malley, with whom he has four children.

Martin’s paternal grandfather was William Patrick O’Malley (the son of Martin O’Malley and Bridget O’Toole). William was born in Pennsylvania. Martin’s great-grandparents Martin and Bridget were both Irish. Bridget was the daughter of Philip O’Toole and Mary Coalman.

Martin’s paternal grandmother was Marie Genevieve Clarty (the daughter of John J. Clarty and Mary Ann McGinty). Martin’s grandmother Marie Genevieve was born in Pennsylvania. John was born in Ireland, the son of Thomas Cloherty.
