Lucy Hawking is an English journalist, novelist, educator, and philanthropist.

Her father, Stephen Hawking, was a theoretical physicist, cosmologist, and author. Her mother, Jane Hawking, is an author and teacher.

Lucy has a son with her former husband Alex Mackenzie Smith, who was a member of the United Nations Peace Corps in Bosnia.

Lucy’s patrilineal ancestry can be traced back to her fourth great-grandfather, William Hawking.

Lucy’s paternal grandfather was Frank Hawking (the son of Robert Hawking and Mary Lund Atkinson). Robert was born in Ellenthorpe, Yorkshire, and was the son of John Hawking and Hannah Atkinson. Mary was the daughter of William Atkinson and Anne/Ann Groves.

Lucy’s paternal grandmother was Isobel Eileen Walker (the daughter of Jame Walker and Agnes “Nancy” Stevenson Law). Isobel was born in Glasgow, Scotland. James was also born in Glasgow, and was the son of Archibald Walker and Janet Audrey Margaret Morris. Agnes was also born in Glasgow, and was the daughter of Andrew Law and Agnes Stevenson.

Lucy’s maternal grandfather was named George Leslie Wilde.

Lucy’s maternal grandmother was Beryl Vera Eagleton (the daughter of Arthur Sydney Eagleton and Vera Annie Barham). Arthur was the son of Arthur Joseph Eagleton and Harriet Mahala Dingle. Lucy’s great-grandmother Vera was the daughter of Charles Barham and Mary.
