Jean Arthur was an American actress. She is remembered for her roles in the films Mr. Deeds Goes to Town, You Can’t Take It With You, and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, which were directed by the legendary Frank Capra.

Jean’s paternal grandfather was Sidney Thomas Greene (the son of Henry Collamer Greene and Hannah Larrabee). Sidney was born in Vermont. Henry was the son of Nathan Greene and Susan.

Jean’s paternal grandmother was Mary E. Clark (the daughter of Martin Charles Clark and Mary Ann). Jean’s grandmother Mary E. was born in Vermont. Martin was the son of Amos P. Clark and Mary “Polly” Whittemore.

Jean’s maternal grandparents were Henry P. Nelson and Anne Jørgine Johannesdatter. They were emmigrants from Norway.
