Rita Ora is a British singer, songwriter, and actress. She is known for her songs “R.I.P.,” “How We Do (Party),” “Your Song,” “Anywhere,” “Let You Love Me,” and, in a featured role, “Hot Right Now.” She has also been billed as Rita Sahatçiu Ora.

She was born in Pristina, Yugoslavia, to a Kosovan Albanian family. She is the daughter of Vera (Bajraktari), a psychiatrist, and Besnik Sahatçiu, a pub owner. Her father is a Muslim and her mother is Catholic. Her family moved to the U.K in 1991, because of the persecution of Albanians in Kosovo, and she was raised in Notting Hill, London. Her surname, Sahatçiu, is derived from the Turkish word saatçi, which means “watchmaker.” Her family later added “Ora” to her full name; the word means “time” in Albanian. She is a citizen of the U.K. and Kosovo. In 2015, she was named Honorary Ambassador of Kosovo.

When asked about her ethnicity in an interview, Rita stated that she is “100% from Kosovo,” here. A picture of Rita’s father can be seen here. A picture of Rita’s mother can be seen here. Rita is married to New Zealand actor and filmmaker Taika Waititi.

Rita’s paternal grandfather was Besim Sahatçiu, a film and theatre director (the son of Adem Sahatçiu and Besa). Besim was born in Pejë, Kingdom of Yugoslavia, now Kosovo.

Rita’s maternal grandfather was named Osman Bajraktari. Osman was the Albanian consul to Russia, then part of the USSR.

She must have some Middle Eastern or African in her because she doesn’t look 100% black to me. Maybe she has African or Middle Eastern roots.

    • Peanut says:

of course she has middle eastern dna, all balkanic people have.

      • Me myself and I says:

You are stupid, don’t speak of a people’s history or ancestry if you have zero clue. That’s like saying all English people have Norman ancestry, while the Normans only brought along the culture and changed the English language with French influences, like a lot. But the English natives aka Anglo Saxons never mixed with the Normans they were just the ruler of the country since England ended up being their colony. That’s it. A few people mixed, it’s not like you can control love or whatever, but that’s like 5% of the entire population. Same goes to the Balkan peoples. Slavic tribes to be more precise South Slavic tribes which got attached to the Ottoman Empire and spent a few hundred years under their control… as colonies… that’s it. Again some people mixed, but it was pretty rare. The Turks lived in what is today Turkey and ruled from there, while the natives of the occupied countries lived their own lives, with the only difference that they weren’t independent anymore. So no, miss Ora ain’t ME nor African… She is I’m guessing white, but not Slavic. The only Balkan people not being (south) Slavic are Albanians and Romanians.

  4. Your Mom says:

Everyone is saying she looks Black. I must be the only one who thinks she looks White. Not all White people are pale as paper. They don’t all look the same. Stop believing the stereotypes. White people are the only race that is so diverse. White people have different appearances. I never once questioned Rita’s ethnicity. She is a White girl.

  5. WTF says:

it’s so obvious she had black ancestry
