Rita Ora is a British singer, songwriter, and actress. She is known for her songs “R.I.P.,” “How We Do (Party),” “Your Song,” “Anywhere,” “Let You Love Me,” and, in a featured role, “Hot Right Now.” She has also been billed as Rita Sahatçiu Ora.

She was born in Pristina, Yugoslavia, to a Kosovan Albanian family. She is the daughter of Vera (Bajraktari), a psychiatrist, and Besnik Sahatçiu, a pub owner. Her father is a Muslim and her mother is Catholic. Her family moved to the U.K in 1991, because of the persecution of Albanians in Kosovo, and she was raised in Notting Hill, London. Her surname, Sahatçiu, is derived from the Turkish word saatçi, which means “watchmaker.” Her family later added “Ora” to her full name; the word means “time” in Albanian. She is a citizen of the U.K. and Kosovo. In 2015, she was named Honorary Ambassador of Kosovo.

When asked about her ethnicity in an interview, Rita stated that she is “100% from Kosovo,” here. A picture of Rita’s father can be seen here. A picture of Rita’s mother can be seen here. Rita is married to New Zealand actor and filmmaker Taika Waititi.

Rita’s paternal grandfather was Besim Sahatçiu, a film and theatre director (the son of Adem Sahatçiu and Besa). Besim was born in Pejë, Kingdom of Yugoslavia, now Kosovo.

Rita’s maternal grandfather was named Osman Bajraktari. Osman was the Albanian consul to Russia, then part of the USSR.

You do realize Kosovar people (people from Kosovo) are not always the most whitest looking people??? There’s plenty of people from Albania/Yugoslavia/Kosovo area THAT LOOK LIKE HER!!!!! :P How about stop trying to fit people in a box of “what is your ethnicity” and just say, “wow. She’s pretty, no matter what her ethnicity is!”

find me a person from “Albania/Yugoslavia/Kosovo” like her..

There’s no such thing as Kosovar people, there are Serbs, Albanians and Gypsies. Yugoslavia is no longer a country but Kosovo was part of it. Why are people this uninformed about this region making up conspiracy theories about this poor girl? If you have this much spare time you can afford to read a little about the history of the area before you try to comment on it.

    Only Albanian?
What a suspicious looking person :S
“100% from Kosovo” is like saying i am “100% American” it doesn’t mean she is an ethnic Albanian.

Like I’ve always stated, you go by what your parents tell you. They have told her she is 100% white, and that’s how she carry herself(not that I’m saying she’s not 100%).The parents might not know about any other ancestry they may have, wouldn’t be the first time

She’s Gheg Albanian. That’s what it means comming out of her mouth and that is exactly what she is until proven otherwise.
