Xherdan Shaqiri is a Swiss professional footballer. He is a winger for Major League Soccer club Chicago Fire. He has played for FC Basel II, FC Basel, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, Stoke City, Liverpool, and Lyon, and the Swiss national football team.

Xherdan was born in Gjilan, in present-day Kosovo, to an ethnic Albanian family. His family moved to Switzerland in 1992, living in the small town Augst, canton of Basel-Country, near the French and German borders. His father worked in construction and his mother was a cleaner. His brother, Arianit Shaqiri, is a youth football coach, who founded PrioSocc Academy. Xherdan is a Muslim.
