Bernard Hill was an English actor. His roles included the films Gandhi (1982), The Bounty (1984), Shirley Valentine, Mountains of the Moon, The Ghost and the Darkness, Titanic (1997), True Crime, A Midsummer Night’s Dream (1999), The Loss of Sexual Innocence, The Scorpion King, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and The Return of the King, Gothika, Wimbledon (2004), and ParaNorman, the latter in voice performance; and television’s Boys from the Blackstuff and Wolf Hall.

He was from a mining family. Bernard had a son with his former wife, American-born actress Marianna Hill (née Schwarzkopf); and a daughter with his former partner Sue Allen.
