Alexis’s mother, Nanette (Dozier), a flight attendant and gift processor, was born in Phoenix, Arizona, and moved to Mexico at the age of eight. Alexis’s maternal grandfather was a rancher in Arizona, Mexico, and Costa Rica. According to interviews, Alexis’s mother considers herself to be Mexican; she is not of Hispanic descent. Alexis’s mother’s Dozier line traces to Leonard Dozier, who was born, c. 1643, in France. Alexis’s mother also has Welsh, English, Scottish, Irish, German, and Dutch ancestry. He was Vice President of Coca-Cola Latin America and the Coca-Cola Inter-American Corporation. The surname Bledel originates from Paulus Blaedel, Alexis’s distant ancestor, a German who moved to Denmark; making Alexis of at least 1/128th German ancestry, from that line. Alexis’s great-grandfather Einar was born in Denmark, the son of Poul Dons-Blaedel and Charlotte Christine Heise. Alexis’s great-grandmother Elena was born in Argentina, to Danish parents, Frits Johannes Raahauge Huus and Inger Marie Andersen.

of her parents’ upbringing in Latin America, Bledel has stated “It’s the only culture my mom knows from life, and my father as well, and they made the decision to raise their children within the context they had been raised in”. Bledel grew up in a Spanish-speaking household, and did not learn English until she began school; she considers herself Latina.

    • Alice says:

Well she is a Latina if she wishes but that term doesn’t mean much as far as ancestry goes. Most Latin Americans do have Spanish and Amerindian ancestry but there are a minority that don’t.

Just for interest sake how long does a person identify as Latino / Latina? Someone like Jessica Alba who is a third generation ancestry and of only partial Mexican ancestry shouldn’t be called a Latina when she hasn’t been raised in that culture and wasn’t brought up speaking Spanish. Latina / Latino is more a cultural label than an ethnicity. She is of Mexican descent just like she is of Danish descent.

      • Alice says:

meant to write third generation American.

      • loiro says:

no most don’t.. stop making up bullshit, most mexicans do but that’s one country.. you have countries where whites are the majority like argentina and uruguay.. where whites and mulatosss make the majority like brazil.. where triracials make the majority like venezuela and panama… colombia where mestizos, triracials, whites, and mulatos/blacks alll have large numbers… then countries like peru, bolivia where ameridians make the largest numbers.. my point is that mestizos are only really significant in mexico and small latino nations.. so no they’re no the majoriy but they’re one of the largest groups for sure… there’s no latino look or race though

        • what_ever says:

I agree with everything you said Loiro, just wanted to add that the majority race of all Latinos is white. Whites make up to 40% of the whole Latin population. And let’s not forget that whites are the original Hispanics and Latinos (Spaniards, Italians, the Portugese and the French). In fact in Latin America modtly whites call themselves Latino and Hispanic, while Native Americans do not feel with that culture as the Spanish culture isnt theirs. The Spanish culture is a white and European culture just like the English or German cultures.

  2. billErobreren says:

Ugh! this White latina bullshit again?! Latina is about as good an excuse for an ethnicity & race as Germanic. Would Ray Romano be deemed Anglo Saxon for being born in an English-speaking nation despite being more deserving of the Latin label than Bledel or George Lopez for being Italian?

  3. JasonBaker says:

She is very cute. I would like to hear her speak in Spanish, since I read it´s her mother tongue.

  4. terry says:

Latina magazine said she was have Mexican and half Argentian. Why would they lie about what she is? They need better researchers. She is complete white european girl.

    • follers says:

They didn’t really lie. Her father, paternal grandfather, and one of her paternal great-grandmothers, were born and raised in Argentina, though not of Spanish descent. Her mother was raised in Mexico, though is not of “Mexican ancestry”.

  5. David says:

There is no such thing as a “hispanic” look! Hispanics come in all races and colors! Alexis is of mixed european heritage, just like most white Americans! Unless you’re a first generation white american, chances are you’re a euro-mutt! There is nothing wrong with it, but it’s silly that Americans are acting as if they were “pure” anything! That’s ridiculous!
And, to the guy that said she did not look Danish, well obviously, since she is also part French and German. I can definitely see the German and French in her more! :)

    • Jo says:

actually, there is. I’m pretty dang sure you know what people mean when they say that. When you say someone “looks Hispanic” you dont TYPICALLY think of a white-skinned, blue-eyed, clearly of Caucasian descent girl like Alexis do you? No. You’d think more of America Ferrera, Shakira, Selena, etc. The dark brunettes with olive complexions, brown eyes, and aside from Shakira, “fuller” bodies.

      • Shanika says:

Selena does not have a fuller body either though…

      • David says:

Shakira is part Lebanese and Italian…also, I know what people think most hispanics are supposed to look like, but it’s not always the case, there are MANY white hispanics, especially in countries like Argentina, Uruguay and parts of Chile. There are also white hispanics in smaller numbers in almost all countries in latin america. By your logic white hispanics are supposed to feel ashamed that they are of European heritage and not dark…that makes no sense! We should embrace all the different looks in the spanish speaking world, and stop promoting stereotypes!

        • marjanel says:

I am from Latin America and here ,hispanic is syonimous of Spain, Spanish language , Spanish legacy, all white culture. It is interesting tha in USA is all the contrary.

      • notional says:

“you dont TYPICALLY think of a white-skinned, blue-eyed, clearly of Caucasian descent girl”

Are you saying America Ferrera, Shakira, and Selena Gomez don’t have white skin and aren’t caucasian? They’re just as white as any other white person

      • loiro says:

shakira and america ferrera look alike? wow you must be blind.. i guess julia roberts and beyonce look alike to you too… shakira is white btw.. nd shes of european and lebanese descent, she isn’t even mestizo, idiot.. so she wouldnt looks like most “hispanic” mestizo (mexican) girls you see

      • marjanel says:

Then your conept of hispanic is wrong. Hispanic is a white word and always wil be. Here in Latin America, we must begin to use Anglo to native amercicans culture then.

      • what_ever says:

Shakira and Selena look white. Selena is in fact mostly white. So is Shakira. And the Hispanic look is an American myth and far from the truth and far from facts. You just hate being wrong and admitting that in reality you dont know anything.

      • what_ever says:

The majority of Latinos are white. Up to 40% of the whole population my dear is white. And just to break it to you the Spanish culture is a European culture and Spanish people are native European people and are ——- white. So the original race and the true race of Hispanics and Latinos is white.
