Tupou VI is the King of Tonga, having served in the capacity since 18 March, 2012, when his older brother, George Tupou V, died. His father, Tāufaʻāhau Tupou IV, also served as the King of Tonga, from 16 December, 1965 until his death on 10 September, 2006. His mother was named Halaevalu Mataʻaho ʻAhomeʻe. He is married to Nanasipauʻu Tukuʻaho.

Tupou VI’s patrilineal ancestry, although legendary, can be traced back to his 42nd great-grandfather, Pil’e.

Tupou VI’s paternal grandfather was Viliami Tungī Mailefihi (the son of Siaosi U. Tukuʻaho and Mele Siuʻilikutapu). Siaosi was the son of Viliami Tungī Halatuituia and ʻAnaseini Tupou Veihola. Mele was the daughter of Sūnia Mafileʻo and Fane Tupou Vavaʻu.

Tupou VI’s paternal grandmother was Sālote Tupou III (born Sālote Mafile‘o Pilolevu, the daughter of George Tupou II and Lavinia Veiongo Fotu). George was the son of Siaosi Fatafehi Toutaitokotaha and ʻElisiva Fusipala Taukiʻonetuku. Lavinia was the daughter of ʻAsipeli Kupuavanua Fotu and Tōkanga Fuifuilupe.

Tupou VI’s maternal grandfather was Tēvita Manuopangai ʻAhomeʻe (the son of Solomone Piutau ʻOtukolo ʻAhomeʻe and ʻAmelia Moʻungaʻaelangi Maealiuaki). Solomone was the son of Taniela ʻOtukolo ʻAhomeʻe and Siulolovau Vaea. ʻAmelia was the daughter of Viliami Maealiuaki Mafileʻo and Maʻata Peleki.

Tupou VI’s maternal grandmother was Heuʻifanga Veikune (the daughter of Fotu ʻa Falefā Veikune and Vāhoi ʻAtaongo). Fotu ʻa was the son of Siosāteki Tonga Veikune and ʻAkanesi Tuʻifua. Vāhoi was the daughter of Siale ʻAtaongo and Tupou Moheofo.

Tupou VI’s matrilineal ancestry can be traced back to his 10th great-grandmother, Nanasipauʻu.
