Roman Herzog was a German politician, judge, and legal scholar. He served as President of the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany, from 16 November, 1987 to 30 June, 1994, and President of Germany, from 1 July, 1994 to 30 June, 1999.

He was the son of Helene and archivist Karl Theodor Maximilian “Theo” Herzog. He was married to Christiane Krauß and Alexandra Freifrau von Berlichingen.

Roman’s paternal grandfather was named Georg Herzog.

Roman’s maternal grandfather was surnamed Schulze.
