Date of Birth: April 23, 1977

Ethnicity:
*Italian (father)
*French-Canadian, English (mother)

John Cena is an American professional wrestler, actor, rapper, and reality television show host.

John is the son of Carol Frances (Lupien) and John Joseph Cena. John’s father is of Italian descent and John’s mother is of half French-Canadian and around half English ancestry.

The word Cena means “dinner” or “supper” in Italian.

John’s paternal grandfather was Felix Joseph Cena (the son of Agostino/August Cena and Madalena/Madaline/Madolena Baleyns/Belegante/Balegno). Felix was born in Illinois. Agostino and Madalena were Italian immigrants. Agostino was born in Livorno/Leghorn, Province of Livorno, Tuscany, the son of Guiseppe Cena and Margaret. Madalena was the daughter of Felice Baleyns/Belegante and Angela Gralia.

John’s paternal grandmother was Caterino/Catherine/Katherine Ann DiVincenzo (the daughter of Antonio DiVincenzo and Felicia/Felecia Sardella/Saedella). Caterino was born in Massachusetts. Antonio and Felicia were Italian, from Pontecorvo, Province of Frosinone, Lazio, Italy. Antonio was the son of Domenico Ludovico DiVincenzo.

John’s maternal grandfather was Ulysses John “Tony” Lupien (the son of Ulysses John Lupien and Eugenie Marie Gosselin). John’s grandfather Tony Lupien was born in Massachusetts, the son of parents who were of French-Canadian descent. He was a professional baseball player. John’s great-grandfather Ulysses was the son of Francois/Frank Xavier Lupien and Laura Mary/Marie Brusseau/Brouseau. Eugenie was the daughter of Narcisse Desiré J. Gosselin and Marie-Gracieuse “Grace” Guay.

John’s maternal grandmother was Natalie Nichols (the daughter of Charles Nichols and Julie/Julia Helena Skelton). Natalie was born in Massachusetts. Charles was the son of Charles H. Nichols and Martha Emma Dix. Julia was the daughter of Horace T. Skelton and Julia C. Hobbs.

Some web sites claim that John has Arbereshe ancestry. The Arbereshe are an ethnic Albanian group that moved to Southern Italy and Sicily in the 1500s. These claims have not been verified.

Mario Cantone referred to Cena as his “Sicilian big brother”.

Cena does not appear to be a surname with any Albanian origins.

CORRECTION

Leghorn is this proper English name for the city known is Italian as Livorno. (it is known in French as Livourne)

You’re an idiot. Why would an Italian place needs to have a ‘proper English name’? GTFO

You can find people like him from central Italy all the way to the south. People who say X person looks French or Italian or X person doesn’t look French or Italian just because they’re either dark or light just show that they’ve never been to these countries once in their lives because both France and Italy are the most heterogeneous countries in all of Europe. Italians and French people can look like anything. No other country in Europe has as diverse phenotypes in their land as France and Italy does. Even in the north all Italians don’t look the same just as it is in central and the south. This percieved Italian/French look is largely based on America’s limited experience with both these groups. All of their Italians are mostly Sicilians (who also look different from each other). They have no identity how diverse of a country Italy is.

Looks more British/French than Italian.

You don’t need to post only north italians to show how diverse Italian phenotypes are. It can be observed all over. This sentiment on how Italians should look seems to come mostly from Americans whose idea on Italians is entirely based on Hollywood mafia movies played by mostly non italian actors to begin with. Ironically their idea on Italians isn’t the only flawed view on ethnicity they have. They’re also ignorant of the diversity in British or German phenotypes as well. In America all Germans are thought to be fair and blonde however most of the German American immigrants were the total opposite as most were Bavarians.

Cena is a very common last name in Albania, but you will also find it amongst Albanians that live in places like Kosovo, Macedonia and Montenegro. The name Cena also has many variations like Cenaj/Cena, Cana, Canaj and Cani. It wouldn’t surprise me if he was indeed from Italy, because there is a big Albanian community in Italy that fled Albania during Ottoman Conquest over 500 years ago. They are today known as the Arbëreshë and many Italian-Americans stem from these people. But never mind all of that, he has a striking similarity with my very own father, from his eyebrows, to his eyes, nose, ears, mouth and even chin.

Ciro H. Italien April 10, 2012 at 5:18 pm

bvision April 10, 2012 at 5:26 pm

DNA Results of John Cena March 28, 2012 at 12:42 am

John Cena is 1/8 chinese, 1/8 japanese, 1/4 italian, 1/4 brazilian and 1/4 homosexual

I SEE DUMB PEOPLE March 28, 2012 at 12:41 am

Why do more than 50% of Albanians look very, very middle eastern/semitic? Obviously not all of them are but a very large portion of their population has clearly been mixed with middle eastern peoples (probably Ottoman/Turkish) and if not – then a large population of theirs was never White European to begin with.

None the less, Albanians are the scum of Europe.

park March 28, 2012 at 12:39 am

Someone ask Cena if he is part Albanian.

He replied “I’m not Arab”

LMAO

park March 28, 2012 at 12:38 am

John Cena’s mother lived in Ireland from age 4 to 23. She has also been reported as Irish on some sites, although none have a credible source. She has a strong Irish accent and her maiden name is Irish too. I think 99% she is Irish. His dad is Italian (pure, non-abreshe)

Dropit! March 18, 2012 at 5:21 am

He just recently said on TV, his dad was italian and had some Puerto Rican in him. Is this true?

fatass March 28, 2012 at 12:33 am

no he isnt puerto rican, at least i havent seen him say that. his dad is Italian and his grandma is sicilian I think? but that is still italian. His dad side immigrate from a part of italy where NO abreshe/albanians were so he doesnt have any middle eastern/albanian in him. his family anglicized their last name to CENA so it was not Cena back in italy.

his mom is irish but maybe she has some puerto rican like you said, she kinda has a bit native american look, i thought maybe distant cherokee but its possible she is like 1/4 puerto rican

ew March 7, 2012 at 4:18 pm

no way he is a dirty albanian, they are not white the most of them filthy

He is Italy March 7, 2012 at 4:19 pm

Yes, most Albanians are mixed these days. They look like Middle eastern people. I dont think Cena is Albanian. If his last name even meant “Dinner” in italian, i can believe that over him being albanian. Besides there are many Cena in Italy, so maybe people do actually have last name dinner. after all they can afford to eat dinner unlike albania

arsel December 25, 2011 at 4:52 am

john cena or (xhon cena ) is 100 °/° her last name is cena . the last name cena is from albania her father or het mother is albanain absolytly throu if you see him ask the question you will see

He is Italy March 7, 2012 at 4:20 pm

other people can have same last name, too stupid to understand that albanian retardS?

wow March 7, 2012 at 4:21 pm

Albanians are so desperate and stupid. John Cena is Italian-American.

Elina February 15, 2012 at 9:41 am

Cena is a very very common albanian last name. you also have cani, cana and then cena.

bubba August 29, 2011 at 7:22 pm

He’s Irish and Italian.

emily November 19, 2011 at 6:55 pm

but cena is an albanian last name

fatass March 28, 2012 at 12:37 am

1) It is also an Italian last name (found more of than not in parts of Italy where no Abreshe(spelling?) settled

2) Some people named Cena are Italians who have ANGLICIZED (made easier for English people) their ethnic Italian surnames. It is purely coincedence that it ended up being same as an Albanian last name
