She is the daughter of Cheryl (Domasin), an interior designer, and Peter Steinfeld, a personal trainer.

Her father is originally from a family from New York, and is Ashkenazi Jewish. Hailee’s uncle is fitness specialist and entrepreneur Jake Steinfeld. Hailee’s mother was born in California. Hailee’s maternal grandfather was of half Filipino [Boholano] and half African-American descent. Hailee’s maternal grandmother had English, German, Scots-Irish/Northern Irish, and Scottish ancestry. A picture of Hailee with her parents and brother can be seen here.

Hailee was raised in Agoura Hills and then Thousand Oaks, California. She is a first cousin of actress and model True O’Brien.

Hailee has stated:

I’ve become more aware of my roots over the years. My grandfather, my mom’s dad, was half African-American, half Filipino. And Filipinos, I’ve learned, have many wonderful traits – the main ones being passion and pride. I went to the Philippines for the first time this spring, and it was amazing. People were like, “We’re related! We’re family.” I actually played three of my own shows there.

Hailee’s great-uncle, the brother of her maternal grandfather, is child actor Larry Domasin. Larry is pictured here and here.

Hailee’s paternal grandfather was Herbert Melvin Steinfeld (the son of Shmuel, later Samuel “Sam,” Steinfeld, and of Brindel Chaimovna Zelenetskaya, later Bessie Ethel Zelensky). Herbert was born in Brooklyn, New York City, New York. Sam was a Romanian Jewish emigrant, from Iași, Iași, and was the son of Hirsch, later Julius, Steinfeld, and of Dweire, later Dora, Schwartz. Bessie was a Belarusian Jewish emigrant, from Romanovo (now Lenino), Slutsk, Minsk, and was the daughter of Chaim Zelenetsky, later Hyman Mendel Zelensky, and of Brize, later Sarah, Cohen.

Hailee’s paternal grandmother is Joy A. Wagner, later Duberstein (the daughter of Arthur Lindemann, later Wagner, and of Minnie, later Myra, Siegel). Joy was born in Brooklyn, New York City, New York. She adopted the surname Duberstein when her mother remarried. Arthur was the son of Max Lindemann, a German Jewish emigrant, and of Charlotte “Jennie” Wagner, a Ukrainian Jewish emigrant, from Lviv. Hailee’s great-grandmother Minnie was born in Brooklyn, to Russian Jewish parents, Joseph “Joe” Siegel and Fannie Mitnitskaya.

Hailee’s maternal grandfather, Ricardo/Simonas Guillermo Domasin, was born in 1938 in Los Angeles, California. Ricardo’s father, Pastor “Peter” Loresca Domasin, was born, in 1902, in Panglao, Bohol, Central Visayas, Philippines. Pastor was the son of Gerónimo Domasin y Lorejo, or Gerónimo Lorejo Domasin in Filipino, and of Cirila Loresca y Domaluan, or Cirila Domaluan Loresca in Filipino. A picture of Pastor can be seen here.

Ricardo’s mother, Evelyn Olivia Bain, was born in 1910 in Los Angeles; Evelyn was Hailee’s great-grandmother. Evelyn was African-American, and she and her parents, Thomas Edward Bain (born in Kansas, to Gabrel Bain and Isabella/Belle Johnson) and Wilma Frances “Willie” Peterson (born in Arkansas, to William F. Peterson and Nannie Hall), are listed as either African-American or, sometimes, as “half white,” in census records. A picture of Evelyn can be seen here.

Hailee’s maternal grandmother is Laurita Lee Hinkle (the daughter of William Hicks Hinkle and Edith Laurita Jones). Laurita was born in Texas, and had English, German, Scots-Irish/Northern Irish, and Scottish, ancestry. William was the son of Joshua Madison Hinkle and Ella Malona Payne. Edith was the daughter of Charles Kirby Jones and Ethel Effie Smith.

Hailee’s matrilineal ancestry can be traced back to her fourth great-grandmother, Penelope “Phenina” Watson.

Jewish is an ethnicity and a religion.

  3. Bianca says:

She looks completely white because if you guys didn’t know anything about genetics Mongoloid (Asian) genes are far weaker than white genes, If a white person had a baby by a black person and that baby grew up and got a white woman preganant the baby would still look black-ish, if that black-ish baby slept with a white woman the baby would look somewhat white but ultimately still have negroid features.

With Asians its completely different. Asian genes can occassionaly disappear within 1-2 generations. This is why most Eurasians almost always come out looking more Caucasian.

      @bi

that’s not true, look at victoria roswell daughter, and eartha kitt daughter

    • Richard Kerr says:

First off no race gene is weaker.. they are just different.. some blood genes against diseases are not stronger. the reason people are more sick in certain races in certain countries is because of opportunity being lacked or minority mistreatment. if you have not noticed, many eurasians still look a little asian.. a good example is krissada sukosol.. he is thai, and he is eurasian. he does not have the asian eye traits permanently, but he has the asian cheek/facial features permanently… and also wentworth miller is mulatto, but he did not look like it until later in age. Appearances can be deceiving! Even white/caucasian people can look different than just white.. I don’t look white, but I am. I have met one that looked asian, but he is white and I knew right away his heritage is white from historical events and business that his father was running, he is. I even met 2 different, unrelated half asians that looked white.

It depends more so on the father of the child. I have noticed a particular trend among many people of biracial ancestry. They are more likely to come out looking like the race of the father rather than the race of their mother. You have genes confused on the “weaker” and “stronger” genes. The European genes are simply more dominant than the Asian genes. And African genes are more dominant than both. If an African person and a European person have a child together the child will have very light skin but is more likely to have Negroid features as opposed to Caucasoid features. The same would happen if it were African and Asian.
Keep in mind I said it’s LIKELY to happen not that it is definite because not every case is the same.

          @gem

I think it’s more to it than that. You left out some other factors.First what if the black person is also Caucasoid in facial type?.Next what if either parent is not pure in their heritage?.What I mean is what if the black parent is only half black,or the white parent is only 3/4 white(but looks completely white).Or what if both parents are tri-racial?There are other factors, but I think you get what I’m saying

Of course I understand that, but the Negroid features would still be very apparent out of the three. I only meant the indigenous people of each continent because each one’s DNA is at its most powerful as opposed to Americans, who have years of mixed lineage. A pure African who mates with a pure European(and vice versa if it matters to people) will be more likely to have a child that is fair skinned but with more Afrocentric features than Eurocentric features(other than the obvious light skin). An African American, however, who creates children with a pure European or a European American will have a child that is more mixed looking(if you know what I mean). The child will have less African DNA due to the admixtures already embedded into African Americans. So therefore the child will more than likely look like a typical Hispanic/Latino(Mexican, Puerto Rican, or even Belizean)because they are mixed themselves. The child is more likely to have more European DNA, have significant African DNA, and some Amerindian DNA.
I understand that there are other factors. Genetics is a very funny thing and it is far more complicated than people put it to be. Like being a light skinned African American automatically makes you mixed. There are more complicated factors to that and the shallow seem to miss that. Having light skin is not an undeniable indication of admixture within people of African descent because all African people are not dark as night. But then one must take into account having an Albanistic parent(s). People misunderstand the concept of genetics.

Bull crap! It’s not about probability, but genes. Everyone is different. Quincy Jones daughter is Rashida Jones and she looks completely WHITE. Jennifer Beals’ mother is white and father is black, but she looks WHITE.

Many half Asians half whites look ASIAN.

Please stop with this psudeoscience before someone reads this and believes it.

    • Jeff says:

Not true. I am white and have a Thai wife. Our son looks very much like my wife’s mother.

    • Keek says:

You are wrong in some cases; Asian (Mongoloid) genes are usually stronger, thus it will show up in a person’s features (esp the eyes). This is why you see slight Asiatic features in people with Native American ancestry.

However, there ARE cases where it’s not notable. ie. the guy who played Zack in ‘Saved by the Bell’.

    • Alice says:

She looks white because most of her ancestry is white. Her mother is half Filippino so Hailee is 25% Asian. Usually dark colouring is dominant. If a person has a parent of full Asian ancestry and one parent of European ancestry the Asian characteristics will definitely be noticeable. Genes are either recessive or dominant. To exhibit recessive traits like red hair or blue eyes they have to be passed on to the child from BOTH parents.

    • AnonymousPerson says:

Actually most Eurasian look more Asian than white. Not all of the time, but 99% of the time they look more Asian than white.

  4. Tiarra says:

    wow! Go Filipinos!!!

  5. To Fuzzybear says:

Filipinos are not part black. Get your fact strait. Negrito genes are not even 1% of Filipino genes. Most Filipinos look the same before the spanish came to the islands. We look similar to other South east asian populations. The most closely related population to us is the Ami Taiwanese Aborigenes.

    • WTF says:

First learn how to use the right word.Next 1% means it’s in you, also you don’t know what they looked like back then;so keep your bigoted butt quiet. We (STRAIT) LOL
