Rozonda Thomas, also known as Chilli, is an American dancer, singer, songwriter, actress, and television personality. She has been a member of R&B/hip hop girl-group TLC, with Lisa Lopes and Tionne Watkins, replacing original member, and co-founder, Crystal Jones. The group was managed by Perri “Pebbles” Reid.

She is the daughter of Ava Thomas and Abdul Ali. Her great-grandfather’s brother was singer Bardu Ali. Rozonda has a son with her former partner, producer Dallas Austin.

She is African-American, and also has a Bengali Indian great-great-grandfather and an African-Antiguan great-great-grandmother.

Rozonda has been described as having Native American ancestry. It is not clear if this Native American ancestry has been verified/documented.

Rozonda’s paternal grandfather was Arfien Joseph Ali (the son of Arfien/Arfin Ali and Lucille/Lucile Lyons). Rozonda’s grandfather Arfien was born in Louisiana. Rozonda’s great-grandfather Arfien was born in Mississippi, and was the son of Moksad Ali, a Bengali Muslim trader, who was born in Hooghly, West Bengal, India, and of Ella Blackman, an African-American. Rozonda’s great-grandmother Lucille was the daughter of William Lyons and Lottie Green.

Rozonda’s paternal grandmother was Margaret Augusta Lane (the daughter of Clifford Lane and Augusta M. J. Bennett). Margaret was born in New York. Augusta’s father, Edmund Robert Bennett, was born on Saint John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, and was a bishop of the African Orthodox Church. Augusta’s mother, Marguerite Fields, was born in Iowa.

    1) I can bet a thousand dollar on the fact that any Muslim guy would keep “Abdul-Ali” as name. This is a heretical name among Muslims. The word “Abdul” should always end with any name of God (Allah) I.e. Abdul-Rashid, Abdul-Karim.
Name of persons such as Ali, Ahmad, Muhammad, Umar etc. can’t be added after “Abdul”.

This clearly shows that you have made up this name “Abdul-Ali” to claim Muslim ancestry which in turn to claim Middle-Eastern ancestry.

    2) Indian populatipn which is settled in Guyana is mostly belongs to Dassyus (Slaves)/Shudras(Untoucheble)/Adivasi (Tribal) community who were forced to work for British colonies in Caribbean islands. These community have Australoids ancestry.
Surely, you can claim that because there is a sizable community of Tribals in East-India.

Can y’all please specify more in depth on “Middle Eastern” and “East Indian?!” Don’t worry about “Native American” though…I’ll just let that one slide. Thank you! :)

Rozonda Chilli Thomas is African American and East Indian she is a DOUGLA :) She never said she was Guyanese, she could very likely be Trini or even Grenadian. She just stated that she is Indo-Caribbean. She’s not Middle Eastern. Douglas, we are beautiful people :)

Is there any proof she is even Native? it’s all just hearsay/false claim of being Native by another celebrity, if nothing points to her mother actually being Mixed. They should not list her as being Native or being mixed with Native through her mother (especially if it doesn’t list how much her % her mother is or if has any recent native ancestry to speak of) She is gorgeous, but if this turns out to be another lie its really disappointing to hear, as it is unnecessary to lie, to sound more “exotic” .

I would like some links to her tree which point to her being Native if possible, if you cannot find them, or find it listed, her mother probably isn’t mixed. Like someone else said, she apparently said before she was only African-American, and Middle-eastern& east-Indian.

can you elaborate on more unexplicit claim such as middle eastern and east Indian ethnicity. people from middle east don’t called themself middle eastern rather Lebanese, Moroccan etc.. Is there any proof she is even middle eastern?
I am astonish that (retardant) people are questing her native ancestry but buying the claim of having middle east and east Indian ethnicity.

Mixed race people were not documented correctly at all. You had white people documented as Mullatto if a census taker didn’t feel they were white enough. It is impossible to try to count the number of multiracial people in the 1790 U.S. Census because of the racial categories used: white, slave, and “other.” The latter was used for “Free Coloreds,” or persons who were free but did not look white. Furthermore, Native Americans were intentionally excluded from the U.S. Census until 1890 (Jobe, 2004). Other types of government surveys were used to count them since tribes were usually accorded the status of quasi-sovereign nations. Census takers used their discretion to determine who fit in the category of “Free Colored,” so it is hard to identify the dividing lines between black, white, and “other.” A “Free Colored” could be a black person who was not a slave, a free person of mixed black and white ancestry, or a free person of another ethnic or racial origin whom the census taker did not feel was white. Sometimes these “others” included individuals of Portuguese, Turkish, or “Black Dutch” heritage. (Both Portuguese and Turkish people are considered “white” by modern U.S. Census standards.)

Why are you so concerned with her ancestry? Go learn yours.
