He was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Mexican parents, Nicolasa and Eleuterio Peña. His father was from Villa Purificación, Jalisco, and his mother was from Charcas, San Luis Potosí. Michael is married to Brie Shaffer, with whom he has a son.
