Jennifer Beals is an American actress and model. She is known for her roles in the movies Flashdance and Devil in a Blue Dress. Her father, Alfred Leroy Beals, was African-American. Her mother, Jeanne Anderson, was white, and had Irish ancestry. Jennifer is married to Canadian entrepreneur Ken Dixon, with whom she has a daughter.

    Her mother IS Irish and fully Irish NOT Jewish, AT ALL. LOL. Look at this: Her father died when Beals was ten years old, and her mother remarried, to Edward Cohen. So that’s why. Her mother took after her next husband’s last name.

    You’re right Cohen is a Jewish name but it is also possibly an Anglicized form of two Gaelic Irish surnames – O Cadhain of Connacht

    Um, Cohen is not a very common Irish name. In fact, it’s not Irish at all. It’s Jewish. Unless her mother’s name was Cowan and is misspelled, this needs a bit more research.
