Henry Selick is an American filmmaker and animator. Known for his stop-motion animation style, he has directed the films The Nightmare Before Christmas, James and the Giant Peach, Monkeybone, Coraline, and Wendell & Wild. He also wrote Coraline and co-wrote Wendell & Wild. He often collaborated with filmmaker Joe Raft.

He is the son of Melanie and Charles Henry Selick.

Henry’s paternal grandfather was Harold Edwin Selick (the son of Heinrich/Charles Henry Selig/Selick and Christine Carolina/Caroline Rosenberger). Harold was born in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, to German parents. Christine was born in Kirchheim am Neckar, Ludwigsburg, Baden-Württemberg, the daughter of Johann Jakob Rosenberger and Friederika Vetter.

Henry’s paternal grandmother was Marion L. K. Gimson (the daughter of Lawrence K Gimson and Mildred Emelia Hartmann). Marion was born in New York. Lawrence was born in Canada, to English parents, Charles Gimson and Mary Wilson. Mildred was born in Kings, New York, to Swiss-German parents, Abraham Hartmann and Anna.

Henry’s maternal grandfather was James Luther Molan (the son of Alexander Washington Molan and Nora Estelle Hardy). James was born in Edwardsville, Alabama. Alexander was born in Cleburne, Alabama, the son of Roland Molan and Rachel Spradlin. Nora was born in Calhoun, Alabama, the daughter of James Walter Hardy and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Campbell.

Henry’s maternal grandmother was Willie Lucille Horne (the daughter of Edward Lee Horn and Ida B Curlee). Willie was born in Talladega, Alabama. Edward was born in Alabama, the son of Simpson Horn and Elizabeth Porter. Ida was born in Alabama, the daughter of Charles Pickney Curlee and Susan Hutchins.
