Elissa Slotkin is an American politician. A member of the Democratic Party, she has been a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Michigan, since January 3, 2019. She was a Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) analyst, including serving three tours in Iraq as an analyst. She was also a Department of Defense official, as Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs, from November 14, 2014 to January 20, 2017.

Elissa is the daughter of Judith and Curt Slotkin. She was raised on her family’s farm in Holly, Michigan, part of the Hygrade Meat Company. She attended school in Bloomfield Hills, MI.

Elissa’s paternal grandfather was Hugo Trevor Slotkin (the son of Samuel Schevach Slotkin and Fanny Rivkin). Hugo was born in Illinois, and founded Hygrade Meat Company; Hygrade was the original company behind Ball Park Franks, now owned outside the family. Samuel was born in Minsk, Belarus, the son of Israel Joseph Slotkin/Schachnowitz, from Koidanov, Minsk, and of Celia Rebeca Hurowitz. Fanny was born in Russia, the daughter of Jacob Rivkin and Annie Kaplan.

Elissa’s paternal grandmother was the daughter of Charles Walsey and Bertha Cohen. Charles was born in Russia.

Elissa’s maternal grandfather was named Theodore Robert Spitz. Theodore was born in Michigan.

Elissa’s maternal grandmother was named Evelyn Kahn (the daughter of Morris Kahn and Leana). Evelyn was born in Michigan.
