Britney Spears is an American pop singer, songwriter, dancer, and actress.

Britney is the daughter of Lynne Irene (Bridges) and James Parnell “Jamie” Spears. She is the sister of film and television producer Bryan Spears and actress and singer Jamie Lynn Spears. She has two children with her former husband, dancer, rapper, model, and actor Kevin Federline.

Britney’s maternal grandmother was an English war bride, and one of Britney’s maternal great-great-grandfathers was Maltese. Most of the rest of Britney’s recent ancestors were American-born, with most of her roots being English, along with Scottish, Scots-Irish/Northern Irish, Irish, French, and Welsh, all of them distant or remote to various degrees. Some of Britney’s distant English ancestors lived in Barbados and Liberia.

Britney’s paternal grandfather was June Austin Spears (the son of June Becker/Bacot Spears and Nova Gill). Britney’s grandfather June was born in Amite, Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana. Britney’s great-grandfather June was the son of Pascal Greene Spears and Mary Pauline Bridges. Nova was the daughter of James Monroe Gill and Effie Strahan.

Britney’s paternal grandmother was Emma Jean Forbes (the daughter of William Nelson Forbes and Lexie/Lexis May Thompson). Emma was born in Mississippi. William was the son of William Nelson Forbes and Kiturah/Katuriah Leona Ball. Lexie was the daughter of Ernest Fulton Thompson and Bertha Magee.

Britney’s maternal grandfather was Barnett Oldfield/O’Field “Barney” Bridges (the son of Joel Menton Bridges and Addie/Adeline/Addy Williams). Barnett was born in Louisiana. Joel was the son of James Jack Bridges and Mary Josephine Phillips. Addie was the daughter of Marshall E. Williams and Missouri E. Wall.

Britney’s maternal grandmother was Lilian/Lillian Irene Portell (the daughter of George Anthony Portelli/Portell and Lilian Esther Lewis). Britney’s grandmother Lilian was born in Barkham Road, Tottenham. George was the son of Edward Richard Portelli, who was from Malta, and of Alice Taylor. Britney’s great-grandmother Lilian was the daughter of James Lewis and Esther Moss. Britney’s Maltese great-great-grandfather Edward was the son of Antonio Portelli; it is possible that Edward was of Italian ancestry, like many people on Malta.

Britney’s parents are third cousins. Two of Britney’s paternal great-great-great-grandparents, William Lee Bridges and Pauline Ann Travis, were also two of Britney’s maternal great-great-great-grandparents.

Malta is an island near sicily and just like sicily most of the people who live there are white mediterrenian people, mostly of greek descendence although there is some arab influence also; and because sicily is part of italy for the sake of argument you can say that britney spears is partly italian.

  2. Me! says:

English means she comes from England, Irish means she comes from Ireland, Welsh means she comes from Wales, French means she comes from France, Scottish means she comes from Scotland and Sicilian means she is from Italy (a part from Italy called Sicilia) but what the hell is Maltese? I always thought that she is 100000% White! :S or is Maltese White European.!?

Maltese huh? I always thought Britney looked ethnic.. just couldn’t put my finger on what she was.. good for her for not being ashamed of her roots.

You know, here in Brazil we don’t have that stereotype about Italians. Brazil has the largest Italian community outside of Italy, that means that no other country has more Italian immigrants. We all know they might have red, light brown or blonde hair as well as very dark hair and any eye color because there are so many of them among us.
I grew up in a small town where most people are of Italian descent, they even have the Italian flag at one of the entrances to the city as well as the Brazilian, the state’s and the city’s flag.
A lot of our celebrities have Italian surnames and don’t look like that stereotype that you’re talking about. I think most of them don’t.

It’s just like here in the US….you say someone is from Brazil and for the most part they think of that person as a hispanic or latino. Hispanics and latinos are considered to be “brown” or non-white. But yet there are lots of brazilians with light complexions and light eyes. The fact that most brazilians are portuguese, and not spanish, doesn’t make a difference to most americans. There are lots of people from all over Europe and Africa living in Brazil. Brazil has a large german community as well (most of them ex-nazis hehe j/k), and that accounts for a lot of them having light hair and skin, but that isn’t the only reason. Argentina also has a rather large italian community; almost half the population from what I understand. Same with Venezuela. Yet if you ask the average american what race/ethnicity of the people of south america, they’d say spanish mixed with native indian. Most americans, as well as others, are ignorant to the world around them, unfortunately.
