Mabel is the daughter of British singer, songwriter, and music producer Cameron McVey (Cameron Andrew McVey), and Swedish singer Neneh Cherry (born Neneh Mariann Karlsson). Her father is of Scottish and English descent. Her mother is of paternal Sierra Leonean and maternal Swedish ancestry. Mabel was raised in Málaga, Andalusia, Spain, and Stockholm, Sweden, later moving to London for her music career.

Mabel is the granddaughter of musician Ahmadu Jah and artist Moki Cherry. Her aunt is singer and songwriter Titiyo and her uncle is musician Eagle-Eye Cherry. Her half-brother is singer, songwriter, and rapper Marlon Roudette.

Mabel’s paternal grandfather was named Duncan Blair Walker McVey. Duncan was born in Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland.

Mabel’s paternal grandmother was named Jean Alma Millward. Jean was born in Hackney, London, England.

Mabel’s maternal grandfather is named Ahmadu Jah. Ahmadu is a musician from Sierra Leone, where his own father was a chief.

Mabel’s maternal grandmother was Moki Cherry (Monika Marianne Karlsson, the daughter of Oskar Verner Karlsson and Justina Mariana Antonsson). Monika was born in Storheden, and was a Swedish interdisciplinary artist and designer. She worked in textiles, fashion design, woodworks, painting, collage, ceramics, and set design. Mabel’s step-grandfather was American jazz musician Don Cherry (Donald Eugene Cherry), who helped raised Mabel’s mother from a very young age. Don is African-American. Mabel’s great-grandfather Oskar was the son of Carl/Karl Wilhelm Olofsson and Hilda Nilsson. Mabel’s great-grandmother Justine was the daughter of Nils Gustaf Antonsson and Ida Övall.

    Many sources says that she was born in Málaga, Spain. I can’t find her birth certificate with the given information, so it is likely true.

    Mabel’s paternal grandparents were/are Duncan Blair W. McVey and Jean A. Millward.

    I suspect that none of her paternal grandparents were English.
