Hey, does someone think they could take a look into former NBA player and current head coach JJ Redick’s background? I suspect it’s probably mostly Colonial American, but that’s just a guess. Curious if there might be any surprises in his background.
Redick/Reddick is a German surname. There is a reason why German is the most claimed European ethnicity on U.S. Census. Unlike Ethnicelebs that claim English.
It’s a Scottish name. https://www.houseofnames.com/redick-family-crest
Reddick is a British surname, but Redick is an anglicization.
So, British surnames have various different spellings. Taking out a letter or adding one doesn’t necessarily make it an Anglicization. Anyway, this is why I’m asking if someone would look him up and see what they find. I suspect a lot of Colonial British ancestry given where he’s from.
“Redick” seems virtually unknown in UK/Ireland, though. To find something about him, I recommend to check his social network profiles.
Anyway, did a little digging, but can’t get back beyond his parents except to find that one of his grandmother’s is named Grace. He has claimed that he is paternally Irish and maternally Swedish, though, there is probably more in there. But that kind of answers the basic question. I’ve submitted him for addition, maybe someone can find records on his grandparents.
Is him part Swedish? For some reason I had wondered if he was part Scandinavian (Norwegian to be specific) or maybe Slavic (like Slovak or something) besides German and British Isles descent.
For those interested, season 11 of Finding Your Roots premieres January 7th on PBS.
@ethnic
Can you ban forever the clown that now goes under her 757th account “A-Mericans”? Usual trolling, spamming and nonsense, and no constructive insight.
Thanks
