Ahmet Zappa is an American writer, musician, producer, and publisher.

He is the son of businessperson Gail Zappa (born Adelaide Gail Sloatman) and musician, songwriter, and composer Frank Zappa. Ahmet is named after Turkish-born music executive Ahmet Ertegun. He is the brother of rock guitarist and actor Dweezil Zappa, actress, singer, and author Moon Zappa, and artist and actress Diva Zappa. Ahmet is married to designer and writer Shana Muldoon, with whom he has two children. Shana is the sister of actor and musician Patrick Muldoon. Ahmet is a cousin of model and actress Lala Sloatman.

Ahmet’s father was of Italian [Sicilian, Neapolitan] descent. Ahmet’s maternal grandfather was of German, as well as Dutch and Irish, descent, and his maternal grandmother was from a Portuguese family. Ahmet’s father said that he also had French, Greek, and/or Arab ancestry. It is not clear if this ancestry has been verified/documented. In the book Zappa, 1993, by Barry Miles, Ahmet’s mother’s ancestry was described as “Danish, Irish, Portuguese, and French.” It is not clear if these lineages have been verified, either. One of Ahmet’s third great-grandfathers, William A. Sloatman, was apparently born in Denmark, but of German descent.

Ahmet’s paternal grandfather was Francis Vincent Zappa (the son of Vincenzo/Vincent Zappa and Rosaria “Rosa” DeLorenzo/Di Lorenzo). Francis was born in Partinico, Sicily.

Ahmet’s paternal grandmother was Rose “Rosie” Marie Colimore (the daughter of Charles Louis “Charlie” Colimore and Theresa Fava). Rose was born in Baltimore, Maryland, to Italian parents.

Ahmet’s maternal grandfather was John Klein Sloatman (the son of John Klein Sloatman and Grace Maxwell Herman). Ahmet’s grandfather John was born in New Jersey. Ahmet’s great-grandfather John was the son of William Charles Sloatman and Emily Klein, and was of German descent. Grace was the daughter of Henry Edwin Herman, who was likely of German descent; and of Mary C. Van Hoesen, whose father was of Dutch descent and whose maternal grandparents were Irish.

Ahmet’s maternal grandmother was Laura Freitas (the daughter of Arthur Freitas and Adelaide De Silva). Laura was born in Hawaii. Arthur was born in Hawaii, to Portuguese parents, Antonio Joaquin De Freitas and Maria Violante Pitta, from Calheta, Azores. Adelaide’s parents were also Portuguese.

He’s is only HALF Italian, so why would he look like a FULL/average US Italian, or for that matter full native mainland Italian?

    • l!ttletimmy says:

Typepope, phenotype and genotype are not the same. That’s an asinine assumption. Phenotype is a reflection of the genotype, not a full picture of said individual’s genetic makeup.

    *12.5% German
    *12.5% possibly Irish and French

    Ethnicity:
    *Italian/Sicilian (father)
*German, possibly Irish and French (maternal grandfather)
    *Portuguese/Azorean (maternal grandmother)

Ahmet’s father was of Italian (Sicilian) descent. Ahmet’s maternal grandmother had Portuguese ancestry, while his maternal grandfather was of at least half German descent. Ahmet’s mother’s ancestry was described in the book Zappa by Barry Miles as “Danish, Irish, Portuguese, and French”. It is not clear if Ahmet’s Danish, Irish, and French ancestry has been documented/verified. One of Ahmet’s third great-grandfathers, William A. Sloatman, was apparently born in Denmark, but of German descent. The Irish and French ancestry would presumably come from Ahmet’s great-grandmother (maternal grandfather’s mother).

Ahmet’s paternal grandparents were Francis Vincent Zappa (the son of Vincent Zappa and Rosaria “Rosa” DeLorenzo/Di Lorenzo) and Rose “Rosie” Marie Colimore (the daughter of Charles “Charlie” Louis Colimore and Theresa Fava).

Ahmet’s maternal grandfather was John Klein Sloatman (the son of John Klein Sloatman and Grace Maxwell Herman). John was the son of William Charles Sloatman and Emily Klein, and was of German descent. Grace was the daughter of Henry E. Herman, who was born in Pennsylvania, and Mary C., who was born in New York.

Ahmet’s maternal grandmother was Laura Freitas (the daughter of Arthur Freitas and Adelaide De Silva). Arthur was born in Hawaii, to Portuguese parents, Antonio Joaquin De Freitas and Maria Violante Pitta, from Calheta, Azores, Portugal. Adelaide’s parents were also Portuguese.

Frank Zappa doesn’t have any Greek or Arab ancestry. His dad was Sicilian, and his mom was Sicilian/Italian and French.

    Straight from his biography.

Frank Zappa’s dad, Francis Vincent Zappa, was Sicilian from Partinico. The biography states that it was “an area of astonishing beauty, with Greek temples, Roman bridges, Saracen mosques, Romanesque churches and cloistered monasteries.” It explicitly states that his dad was just a Sicilian peasant. Frank never said he was part Greek or Arab (vague term anyway).

Frank Zappa’s mom, Rose Marie Colimore (known as Rosie), was a first-generation Italian-American. Her dad, Charlie Colimore, was from Naples, and her mom, Theresa, was of French and Sicilian ancestry.

So, Frank Zappa was mostly Italian (particularly Sicilian) with some minor French.

    • levangelista36 says:

Well, maybe Theresa was like 1/8th French herself, making Frank 1/32nd. All I know is that Frank said he was mostly Sicilian and grew up in poverty. I have no idea where the French came from. I think the Greek and Arab came from the fact that his biography said his dad was a Sicilian peasant who lived in an area with “Greek temples . . . Saracen mosques.”

    • levangelista36 says:

I just saw an add for Frank Zappa. Update this page for his son soon, ethnic, and make a page for Frank!

      Here’s a quote about him:

“I’m not black, but there’s a whole lots a times I wish I could say I’m not white.”

      • typepope says:

“Frank Zappa doesn’t have any Greek or Arab ancestry. His dad was Sicilian, and his mom was Sicilian/Italian and French. ”

Sicilians and southern Italians have massive Greek admixture, and in many regions very considerable Arab admixture.

  5. levangelista36 says:

How come you have his daughter but you do not have Frank Zappa?
