Lindsey Graham is an American politician and military veteran. A Republican, he has served as a U.S. Senator from South Carolina, since January 3, 2003. He was previously a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from South Carolina, from January 3, 1995 to January 3, 2003, and Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, from January 3, 2019 to February 3, 2021.

He was a candidate for the Republican Party’s nomination for President of the United States in 2016.

Lindsey is the son of Millie E. (Walters) and Florence James Graham. They ran a restaurant-bar-pool hall-liquor store, the “Sanitary Café.”

Lindsey’s paternal grandfather was Lindsay/Lindsey Vaughn Graham (the son of James P. “Jim” Graham and Mary Elizabeth J. Vaughn). Lindsey’s grandfather Lindsay Vaughn was born in Georgia. James was the son of William P. Graham and Elizabeth Pendleton Vaughn. Mary was the daughter of John Henry Vaughn and Melitta/Matilda Prudence Tucker. Lindsey’s great-grandparents were first cousins. They shared a set of grandparents, Alexander Wilkins Vaughn and Elizabeth E. David (who were the parents of Elizabeth Pendleton Vaughn and John Henry Vaughn).

Lindsey’s paternal grandmother was Estey/Estee Estelle “Etta” Mattox (the daughter of Joseph David Maddox and Elizabeth E. R. Copelan). Estey was born in Georgia or South Carolina. Joseph was the son of Charles Thomas N. Maddox and Martha Jane Strickland. Elizabeth was the daughter of Jasper Newton Copeland and Mary Elizabeth Furlow.

Lindsey’s maternal grandfather was Olin Crate Walters (the son of William Amos Walters and Henrietta Temple). Olin was born in Georgia. William was the son of James Tate Walters and Eliza “Lizzie” Buffington.

Lindsey’s maternal grandmother was Lettie Maude/Maud Wilson (the daughter of John Columbus Wilson and Milly Jane A. Wade). Lettie was born in Georgia. John was the son of Jim Wilson and Pomelia Smith Martin. Milly was the daughter of Wesley G. Wade and Sarah Grice.
