Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck

Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck is the fifth and current reigning Druk Gyalpo or “Dragon King” of the Kingdom of Bhutan, since 9 December, 2006; he was coronated on 6 November, 2008. He is the son of Jigme Singye Wangchuck and Tshering Yangdon. He is married to Jetsun Pema. Their son is His Royal Highness the Gyalsey.
Khesar’s patrilineal ancestry can be traced back to his 23rd great-grandfather, Sumthrang Chorji (1179-1265).
Khesar’s paternal grandfather was Jigme Dorji Wangchuck (the son of Jigme Wangchuck and Phuntsho Choden). Khesar’s great-grandfather Jigme was the son of Ugyen Wangchuck and Tsundue Pema Lhamo. Phuntsho was the daughter of Jamyang, Chumed Zhalgno, of the Tamzhing Choji family, and of Decho Dorji.
Khesar’s paternal grandmother was Kesang Choden (the daughter of Raja Sonam Tobgye Dorji and Rani Mayum Chonying Wangmo Dorji). Sonam was the son of Raja Ugyen Dorji. Mayeum was the daughter of Thutob Namgyal and Yeshay Dolma.
Khesar’s maternal grandfather is Yab Ugyen Dorji (the son of Sangay Tenzin and Dorji Om). Sangay was the son of Kuenga Gyeltshen and Ngodrup Pem. Khesa’’s great-grandmother Dorji was the daughter of Gyeltshen Dorji, 5th Sersang Lang, and of Abi Yum Yangchen Droelma.
Khesar’s maternal grandmother is Yum Thuiji Zam (the daughter of Lopen Duba and Aum Ugay Dem).
