Prince Archie of Sussex, also known as Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, is a member of the British royal family. He is the son of Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, who is English-born, and of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, a Los Angeles, California-born, actress, model, and humanitarian. He is the grandson of Charles III, who has been King of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms, since 8 September, 2022, and of Diana, Princess of Wales, and the great-grandson of Elizabeth II, who was Queen of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms, from 6 February, 1952 to 8 September, 2022, and of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
He is sixth in line to the throne of the U.K.
Archie is the nephew of William, Prince of Wales, and of Catherine, Princess of Wales. He is a cousin of Prince George of Wales. His paternal cousin, once removed, is Princess Beatrice of York.
Archie’s maternal grandmother is African-American. His paternal grandparents are/were white Europeans, of extensive European Royal descent. His maternal grandfather is a white American.

Archie’s great-grandmother Elizabeth II was born in Mayfair, London, England, the daughter of George VI, who was King of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions, from 11 December, 1936 to 6 February, 1952, and Emperor of India, from 11 December, 1936 to 15 August, 1947; and of Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon.
Archie’s paternal grandmother was Diana, Princess of Wales (the daughter of Edward John Spencer, 8th Earl Spencer, and of The Honourable Frances Roche). Princess Diana was born in Kings Lynn, Norfolk. The 8th Earl Spencer was the son of Albert Edward John Spencer, 7th Earl Spencer, and of Lady Cynthia Elinor Beatrix Hamilton Spencer. Frances was the daughter of Edmund Maurice Burke Roche, 4th Baron Fermoy, and of Ruth Sylvia Gill Roche, Baroness Fermoy, who was born at Dalhebity, Bielside, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
Archie’s maternal grandfather is Thomas Wayne Markle (the son of Gordon Arnold Markle/Markel and Doris Mary Rita Sanders). Thomas is a white American, with German, English, Irish, Scottish, Scots-Irish/Northern Irish, and remote French, ancestry. He is a lighting director who worked on Married… with Children. Gordon was born in Juniata County, Pennsylvania, the son of Isaac Thomas Markle/Markel and Ruth Ann Arnold, whose mother was English. Doris was born in New Hampshire, the daughter of Fred George Sanders, whose father was English, and of Gertrude May Merrill, whose mother was born on Malta, to an English father and an Irish mother. Her family moved to Canada.
Archie’s maternal grandmother is Doria Loyce Ragland (the daughter of Alvin Azell Ragland and Jeanette Arnold). Doria is an African-American, who was born in Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio. Alvin was born in Tennessee, the son of Steve R. Ragland and Lois Russell. Jeanette was born in Sandusky, Erie, Ohio, the daughter of James Arnold and Nettie M. Allen.
Several web sites have written that Archie’s maternal grandfather is Jewish. This is not accurate.
