Ariana Grande is an American singer and actress. She has starred on the shows Victorious, Sam & Cat, and Scream Queens, and appeared in the film Don’t Look Up. Her most popular songs include “The Way,” “Problem,” “Break Free,” “Bang Bang,” “Love Me Harder,” “Focus,” “Dangerous Woman,” “Side to Side,” “No Tears Left to Cry,” “God Is a Woman,” “Thank U, Next,” “7 Rings,” “Break Up with Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored,” “Boyfriend,” “Stuck with U,” “Rain on Me,” “Positions,” “Save Your Tears,” and “Die for You.”

Her mother, Joan Grande, has been CEO of the family firm, a manufacturer of communications and safety equipment. Her father, Edward Butera, owns a graphic design firm. Her parents are of Italian descent. She stated on her Twitter account that she is of half Sicilian and half Abruzzese Italian ancestry. Her maternal half-brother, Frankie Grande, is an actor, dancer, and musician. A picture of Ariana’s father can be seen here, and a picture of some of her father’s family can be seen here. A picture of Ariana’s mother can be seen here. A picture of Ariana’s paternal grandfather can be seen here, and a picture of Ariana with her maternal grandparents can be seen here.

Ariana’s paternal grandfather was Anthony Vincent Charles Butera (the son of Carlos/Charles Antonio Butera and Marie/Mary Passalaqua/Passalacqua). Anthony was born in New Jersey. Ariana’s great-grandfather Charles was born in New Jersey, to Italian parents, Antonino Butera and Magherita Azzara/Azzala, from Menfi, Provincia di Agrigento, Sicily. Marie was Italian. The surname Butera is Sicilian.

Ariana’s paternal grandmother was Florence P. Citrano (the daughter of Enrico “Henry” Cetrano and Lucia “Lucy” Ciarfella). Florence was born in Newark, New Jersey, to Italian emigrants, from Civitaquana, Abruzzo. Enrico was the son of Carmine Cetrano and Giulia/Julia Trabucco. Lucia was the daughter of Ascenzio Ciarfella and Margherita Taddeo.

Ariana’s maternal grandfather was Frank Anthony Grande (the son of Antonio “Anthony” Grande and Filomena/Felmino “Philomena”/”Phyllis” Lavenditti). Frank was born in New York, to Italian parents. Antonio was born, c. 1900, the son of Raffaela/Raffaele V. Grande (b. 1876) and Sabato/Rose Cardalisca (b. July 1877, in Lanciano, Province of Chieti, Abruzzo, Italy), and moved to the U.S. in May 1903. Ariana’s great-grandmother Filomena was the daughter of Francesco Lavenditti/La Venditti and Benedetta Perrotti. Ariana’s grandfather also had roots in Bojano and Gildone, in Campobasso.

Ariana’s maternal grandmother is Marjorie M. Damico (the daughter of John Viovanni Damico/D’Amico and Felomina F. “Minnie” Gigante). Marjorie was born in New York, to Italian parents, with roots in San Fele, Potenza, Basilicata.

Ariana also once twitted that she “just found out my grandparents are heavily greek and part north African,” and then specified “…the chart says Greece/Italy. I just thought it was funny. I’m assuming the North African bit is Moroccan or Tunisia?”

Ariana’s reference to “the chart” makes it likely that she took some sort of DNA test to map out her heritage. DNA tests for people of Sicilian descent sometimes indicate some kind of Greek or North African ancestry.

    • rickyflo says:

      You would be passed as italian or austrian and caucasian you are no matter what from those origins only. Being proud of who and what you are is not bad nor a denial. So embracing is going to progress you into a courage beyond other’s judgements.

  2. alberto.r7 says:

    She looks white italian in spite of her make up and tanning.
    Hispanic, latino or mexican arenĀ“t races, please stop writing nonsense.

  3. Jello says:

    I thought she was Mexican until I heard her say that she was Italian.

  4. sudeuro says:

    Sicilians only have 4% North African admixture, and that’s Caucasian anyway. Other Italians have almost none.

    • memphis says:

      When you say Caucasian do you mean Central Asians or the outsmarted social political term for phenotypes? North Africans are very mixed genetically mainly Eurasian with significant however in a lesser extent indigenous African. North Africans can be very fair with blond hair or dark skin and blue eyes.

      • memphis says:

        Correction: I meant updated social political term..

        • andrew says:

          Caucasian is someone who has a certain skull shape from Europe, North Africa and Middle East/Western Asia.

          • memphis says:

            Yeah but it is outdated term because an Ethiopian, a Fulani or a Kenyan and even some East Asians can have that facial type. Some African San have similar facial structures with East Asians. Question: would classify people from Papua New Guinea or Andaman Islanders Negroid?

          • andrew says:

            australoids

          • memphis says:

            Andrew that is point, there are sooo many categories of “race” that is ridiculous. You couldn’t really tell the difference between a Mtubu pygmy and a Papua New Guinean unless someone told you. In Yemen there are Veddiods that also look African as well as “negritos” in The Philippines and Thailand. After awhile % of ancestry becomes meaningless. All we as humans are are walking mutations.

    • Sully says:

      North Africans aren’t all Caucasian.

      • alberto.r7 says:

        Today not, but centuries ago were predominantly white, most of them pure Berbers.

        • midori29 says:

          @Alberto there is alot of subsaharan black African admixture in North Africa. The imaginary dividing line beween North and Subsaharan African did not prevent people from mixing.

          • alberto.r7 says:

            @midori29 Nowadays of course but I am talking about years ago when they were in contact with the Sicilians. They were predominantly white and despite the modern miscegenation there are still North Africans who look white, however, there are increasingly less.

        • midori29 says:

          @Andrew Australoids have recently been discovered by scientists to be related to negroids.

        • fuzzybear44 says:

          @alberto.r7

          (Today not, but centuries ago were predominantly white, most of them pure Berbers.)

          Not going by the slave laws of the United States

          the Negro act of 1740
          Quote:
          SECTION 4 The term Negro is confined to slave Africans (The ancient Berbers) and their descendants. It does not embrace the free inhabitants of Africa, such as the Egyptians, Moors, or the Negro Asiatics, such as Lascars

          The Moor sundry Act 1790:

          It granted special status to the subjects of the Sultan of Morocco,free citizens of Morocco were not subject to laws governing blacks and slaves.It recognized Moors as white people with Jury duty as a privilege.

          Now if berbers and Moors were white like you say, why would these laws be needed? Why would they even be mention in the same sentence with blacks? Why would they have to be recognized as white people?

          Now yes white people have come into North Africa over time, However they were the minority .They didn’t come in like a tsunami until colonialism. There has been a lot of mixing up there for a lot of different reasons, but nothing like colonialism

          • andrew says:

            @fuzzybear

            What are you doing here? go back to your Afrocentric studies, please! There’s already an Afrocentric here (Midori), and it’s enough.

          • fuzzybear44 says:

            @Andrew

            I’m doing the same thing you’re doing here, except my information is correct. Now you should know by I don’t have a problem with being called Afrocentric. It’s the same as me calling you Eurocentric, it does nothing. Now did I lie about something ? I didn’t write these laws almost 300 yrs ago. You can’t get mad at me, because you and the other Eurocentric didn’t know about them. Now if you have a problem with me being here, you could always leave(seeing that I was a member of the site before you were)

          • andrew says:

            Eurocentrism doesn’t exist

  5. me says:

    She looks hispanic.

    • FryzKo says:

      maybe white one, not mixed race one

    • thomas1987 says:

      @me
      hispanic isnt a race’
      you cant look hispanic
      and she looks white

    • alberto.r7 says:

      Hispanic is a cultural or a linguistic term so it has nothing to do with race, you can be of any race if your are “hispanic or latino”.

      • rickyflo says:

        Exactly, anyone can look hispanic. In fact before judging anything hispanic, start educating farther than the ideal. History, looks, and origins. most people dont know this but hispanics are to be diverse from blond and blue eyes majority wise to noirette and hazel eyes. Even some hispanics are nazi. Tan skin doesnt justify race all the way because of features.. australoids may be traced back to negroid but everyone is traced back to africa.. AP kind of stuff. Most australoids are to be classified anyway as the berber side of caucasian category. Terms are not outdated, just propagandas and statuses have reformed over time. Finally proud of some critical thinking from some of you because now you are understanding some is judgement and the other stuff is natural.. some others.. still have a lot to learn and are failing miserably to identify a human being and race in general.
