Vince Gilligan is an American screenwriter, producer, and director. He created the show Breaking Bad, and co-created its spin-off Better Call Saul, both of which he wrote and directed for. He also directed and wrote the sequel film El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie. He directed episodes of the show The X-Files, and co-created its spin-off The Lone Gunmen, both of which he wrote for; and co-created the show Battle Creek. He has also written the films Wilder Napalm and Home Fries, and co-written the film Hancock.

Vince is the son of Gail, a teacher, and George Vincent Gilligan, an insurance claims adjuster. Vince was partly raised in Farmville and Chesterfield County. He is married to Holly Rice.

Vince’s paternal grandfather was Vincent Thomas Gilligan (the son of Vincent J. Gilligan and Marie A. Wyss). Vince’s grandfather Vincent was born in New York. Vince’s great-grandfather Vincent was born in New York, the son of John W. Gilligan, whose parents were Irish, and of Mary A. Fogerty, whose parents were also Irish. Marie was born in Switzerland, the daughter of Gottfried Wyss and Marianna Bahnar.

Vince’s paternal grandmother was Jean Koslowski/Kozlowski (the daughter of George Kozlowski and Mary Wieczorek). Jean was born in New York, to Polish parents.

Vince’s maternal grandfather was Garland Wilson Lambert (the son of Hillary Linwood Lambert and Florence Ella Wilson). Garland was born in either Virginia or Florida. Hillary was born in Virginia, the son of Thomas Lambert and Mary Frances Frost. Florence was born in Virginia, the daughter of William C. Wilson and Margaret Ann Smith.

Vince’s maternal grandmother was Marian/Marion Janetta Wolfe (the daughter of Lloyd Elsworth Wolfe and Fern Mable Hyser). Marian was born in Virginia. Lloyd was born in Illinois, the son of Daniel Ellsworth Wolf and Mary Frances Bradley. Fern was born in Indiana, the daughter of James Arthur Hyser and Margaret Jeanette Work.
