René Goscinny was a French comic editor and writer. He created the Astérix comic book series with illustrator Albert Uderzo.

He was the son of Anna (Bereśniak) and Stanisław/Ladislas Simkha Goscinny, a chemical engineer. His father was from Warsaw, Poland. His mother was born in Chodorków, a small village near Zhytomyr, Poland, now part of Ukraine.

René was raised mostly in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He returned to France after WWII.

He was married to Gilberte Pollaro-Millo, until his death, with whom he had a daughter, author Anne Goscinny.

René’s paternal grandfather was named Abram Juzef Goscinny (the son of Lewek Goscinny, and of a mother surnamed Widerszal).

René’s paternal grandmother was the daughter of Chaim Ferszt, and of a mother surnamed Grycgendler.

René’s maternal grandfather was named Lazare Avram/Abraham Beresniak. Abraham founded a printing company.
