Raymond Berry is an American professional football player and coach. He played his entire professional career, as a split end, with the Baltimore Colts of the National Football League (NFL), retiring as the all-time NFL leader in both receptions and receiving yardage. He played in the 1958 game known as “The Greatest Game Ever Played.” He was later a coach for the Dallas Cowboys, the University of Arkansas, the Detroit Lions, the Cleveland Browns, the New England Patriots, for whom he was head coach; and the Denver Broncos. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a player in 1973.

Raymond is the son of Bess and Mark Raymond Berry. He is a born-again Christian.

Raymond’s paternal grandfather was Robert Emmett Berry (the son of William Jackson Berry and Sarah Rebecca Jones). Robert was born in New Market, Alabama. William was born in Alabama, the son of Samuel G. Berry and Rachel Davis. Sarah was born in Madison, Alabama, the daughter of William Brown Jones and Martha Jane Erwin.

Raymond’s paternal grandmother was Maola Anna New (the daughter of Ambrose Calhoun New and Mary Malissia/Malissa Ann Porter). Maola was born in Iowa. Ambrose was born in Indiana, the son of Daniel Foster New, whose father was English, and of Margaret Lewis. Mary was born in Hancock, Indiana, the daughter of Andrew Jackson Porter and Sarah Ann Smith.

Raymond’s maternal grandfather was Nathaniel David Hudgins (the son of Anderson Pierce Hudgins and Eliza Jane Skelton). Anderson was born in Jackson, Alabama, the son of Benjamin James Hudgins and Martha Sarah Ellis. Eliza was the daughter of Robert Bobo Skelton and Maratine Emelia Vance.

Raymond’s maternal grandmother was Lucinda Drucilla Foster (the daughter of Joel Lewis Foster, Jr. and Catharine/Catherine McCloskey). Joel was born in Monroe, Mississippi, the son of Thomas Jefferson Foster and Drucilla Lucinda Foster. Catherine was born in Pike, Mississippi, the daughter of John J. McCloskey and Drucilla Turbit.
