Phoebe Snow was an American jazz singer, songwriter, and guitarist. She was known for her hit songs “Poetry Man” and “Harpo’s Blues,” both released in 1975.

She was the daughter of Lili, a dance teacher, and Merrill Laub, an exterminator. She had a daughter with her former husband Phil Kearns.

During her lifetime, Phoebe was sometimes incorrectly thought of as being black.
