She has two children, a daughter, with her former partner, Canadian model Gabriel Aubry, and a son, with her former husband, French actor Olivier Martinez.

Of her upbringing, Halle has said:

I was raised by my white mother and every day of my life I have always been aware of the fact that I am biracial. However, growing up I was aware that even though my mother was white, I did not look or feel very white myself.

Halle’s paternal grandfather was named Robert Berry.

Halle’s paternal grandmother was Cora Lee Powell (the daughter of Adam Powell and Charity Munford/Moffett). Cora was born in Greenwood, Leflore, Mississippi. Adam was the son of Tom Powell and Easter.

Halle’s maternal grandfather was Earl Ellsworth Hawkins (the son of Eugene Allen Hawkins and Bessie C. Spaulding). Earl was born in Dover, Tuscarawas, Ohio. Eugene was the son of John William Hawkins, who was born in Vermont, and of Katherine/Catherina “Katie” Drescher, who was born in Bavaria, Germany. Nellie was born in Shardlow, Derbyshire, England, to a father from Chesterfield and a mother from Spondon. Henry was the son of Robert Dicken and Ann Marsden. Ada was the daughter of John White and Maria.

She also reminds me on an indian[from india].

    • total23 says:

Yeah….At First I Thought She Was A Mixed Indian (From India). I Was So Shocked On What She Was When She Stated Her Ethnicity!

      • Fuzzybear says:

to total23:you really thought she was mixed with that ethnicity, why?

        • katie says:

          woman from bengal.

indians are genetically/autosomally akin to europeans roughly 90% the same underlying mutations.Only a small amount of our dna codes for things like eye color, hair color, pigment etc.

          • Fuzzybear says:

I’m a little stupid,My IQ is only 72.So you have to help me out a little bit.Are you say halle looks like that woman? On top of that, your taking a country whose people have been so mixed that I have serious doubt that they in anyway look like their ancestors. Now the thing with the DNA,that can go for anyone. You change things like(climate, food etc)and those gene you mention will change, and in maybe a thousand yrs your going to have different group of people. It’s been shown many times with animals. You take the same animal, put thing on different Islands with different conditions and see want those animals change from each other

          • Katie says:

im saying in india, halle berry would blend unnoticed, she looks like woman from bengal.

yes the mutations in our dna [spelling errors] change over time and we can see who stems from who based on them, only a few snps/genes exist that altered skin colour.

I think she looks like and has many of the features as her white english mother , its the strong pigment that makes her look less so.I’d say she is probably no more than 30% african.

          • Fuzzybear says:

to Katie:I still say all the AA can fit into the population of India, your only showing one group of the population.I still don’t think she a white dip in chocolate. Now It’s already been shown that you can be only 30-40% white and look like Halle. So that 30% black is kinda an insult.I mean how do we know Halle mom bloodline is black free?

          • Katie says:

the reason AA’s could fit in bengal is because they have euro admixture 20%+ roughly for a good majority of them.Check the AA samples at 23andme as well it’s even higher. Not to mention their NA admixture.

If you add that fact to halle berry already having a euro mother 50% euro ,it means she would have 30-40% black ancestry probably less from her AA dad.

Perhaps her mum does have african ancestry but I have my doubts – who knows, just my opinion noone has to share it.

          • Fuzzybear says:

to Katie : The thing your using an avg. Not all have that. Some have as little as 3% and others have none at all.So whose to say her father had any at all. Also for her mom (my turn),the for whites is 1 in 3 have recent black lineage,so her mother has a good chance. Also If her mother family had recently come from Europe the odds are higher, and I’m sure your cousin proves to you that you don’t have to look it

          • total23 says:

Ur Right Fuzzy, I Remember A Supply Teacher Said That If I Was To Go To India, I Would Look Just Like Them…..And I Am Not An AA…I’m An AJC (African Jamaican-Canadian) I’m Born In Canada, My Parent’s And The Rest Of Generations Are Jamaican!

          • Katie says:

could be fuzzy could be,Ive seen the autosomal data [dna] for many many europeans the african admixture rarely hits over 7% except in the portuguese. But then you know the data is being analysed by europeans and eurocentrists who want to limit foreign/african admixture.

From what ive seen youd be suprised how very high euro admixture is in AA’s.The famed Henry Louis Gates for instance being 50% euro.Blacker than black Roy king being 51% euro autosomally.
            http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQotjOEjDp8

Very little of your dna codes for your appearence, can’t judge a book by it’s cover.
I’m only 7% more euro than Roy king from the same test yet easily pass as white.

          • fuzzybear says:

To Katie: yes the avg they say is 3-8%.What that means,is that avg Europeans had a black ancestor within the last 5 generations or avg 100yrs;maybe 150yrs.I mean the guy who came up with the DNA stuff was 17% black which almost kill him.Now as far as black people with white bloodlines, nothing you said would have surprised me.Black and white have been mixing since white pop up.Now many black families were started through white women. It was very common for black and white to marry in the first hundred years of this country.Far to common for white men.White women brought black men,and Black men bought white women etc. They past a lot of laws to try and stop it.There were more half blooded in the pass than there are now. Then other countries like germany sent many of their half bloods to the U.S. to be given to black families. So like I said, you would not have surprised me.Also I know you can’t go by what a person looks like. That is one of the first things you learn on this site.Well mr.know-it-all as I’m lovly called now and then says good night

          • fuzzybear says:

meant to say-lovelily am called now

          • fuzzybear says:

            To Katie:

I see here you say you can pass for white,so do you?Don’t get offended just curious

          • Katie says:

yes I can, as can my father and most of my father’s relatives, noone realises I have african ancestry. But I am only a 1/4 black,1/4 asian asian and the rest european.

          • fuzzybear says:

            To katie

            What’s (asian asian),LOL

          • Samia_Kabullah_Bella says:

            They’re Caucasian like Europeans.

        • total23 says:

Yea!….All I Know Is That I Never Thought She Was Black!

          • fuzzybear says:

WHAT!!!,I truly don’t know what black people you guys are use to seeing.Because from the first time I saw her,I knew

          • TOTAL23 says:

Ur An American….So It Is Easy For You To Say! I Don’t See People Like Her Everyday, Or Once In A While!

          • fuzzybear says:

            To Total23

You really don’t see black women like her? There so many black women like her around where I live it’s scary.I’ve seen all kinds of black people.Well I guess we really did grow up different

          • Anonymous says:

If there are black women around your area that look like her they must certainly be of mixed race.

          • Fuzzybear says:

To Anonymous:I never said the girl weren’t mixed,I just said I see them alot. However you don’t have to be 50/50 to look like Halle, you can be as little as 30%white

          • OMG says:

yeah she’s totally black, i didnt even think halle berry was mixed when i grew up it really confused me. total23 where are you from? because i found that when I went to europe people basically said the same thing. clearly they maxied people but he immigrants from western african countries dominated so much that i stood out like a sore thumb EVEN though in america no one would bat and eyelash and confused me as anythign BUT black becasue we’re so desensitized to the diversity of blacks

          • Anonymous says:

Fuzzybear, I don’t know what black people you are used to seeing because when I saw her I definitely thought that she was of hispanic origin.

          • Fuzzybear says:

to Anonymous:Well as you can see,you were wrong. However to answer your question,in Los Angeles you see all colors of black women, there is no fixed type here.I can’t say the same about where you live.

          • fuzzybear says:

            To totalb23

Well see that problem, everyone shows one type of person from a country, and then say that’s what everyone looks like.
Oh wait I had something to show you, about how the native american weren’t the first here.It shows how the natives did to the original people here, what white man did to them. The original people beat them here by at least 25,000yrs,and they came from the south. The found all the proof in Brazilian caves, that predated the american Indian. The person in charge is Walter Neves of the University of Sao Paolo .I’ll let you guess who the human remains belong to

          • TOTAL23 says:

What! Explain The Difference Between Amerindian And Native American!

          • fuzzybear says:

            To Total23

The real difference to me is this, anyone born here in America is native, okay.Just because your people were here first, doesn’t make you being born here anymore important than me being born here.I mean the American Indian came here just like everyone else did, they didn’t pop up out the ground. Also from the information I got there hardly any pure blood Indians around(most are mixed with black and white, whether they know it or not)Take Eric Schweig here,he’s not uncommon. Now Amerindian is a name for the American Indian

          • fuzzybear says:

meant to say hardly any pure bloods in the States. Now people can get mad if they want to,I don’t make this stuff up

        • OMG says:

lol. yeah ..why. She looks like a standard mulatto ( sorry if i offend anyone using that word) cafe au lait skin and everything.

    • Fuzzybear says:

To Katie:If that was the case, you would have to say that about millions upon millions of other black people

    • Fuzzybear says:

How about a bleach black woman, that fits better

  2. total23 says:

    I LOVE HALLE!

  3. Abel Tures says:

I assumed Halle Berry was in a really loving relationship with hopes of a long-term marriage. Seems there aren’t such things as joyful marriages such as ours any more – 20 years as one and still on cloud nine.

  4. Fuzzybear says:

    To Anne

That’s just it,her ancestors could be from anywhere in that continent,so the phrase African was used meaning unknown ethnicity. Now American means whatever else you are,put them together you have African American.Unlike white Americans who were not cut off from there lineage,we were.I really don’t know why you guys are complaining, that she says she African American. Now here a question for you,if you don’t want us to call ourselves African American, what do you suggest?

      • Fuzzybear says:

well we do say American,African is just in front of it.I don’t understand on the census they have Caucasian yet as quiet as it’s kept Caucasian can and are every color;however you don’t see black people getting upset.now I would love to just say American, but that’s not how this place works;hope in the future that will change.

  5. Fuzzybear says:

    To Kira

    Thank you Angel

She took what I was asking the wrong way.
