Cape Verdeans typically have a mixed heritage, reflecting the history of the islands as a Portuguese colony. The population generally has both African and European ancestry. Studies on the genetic makeup of Cape Verdeans indicate that, on average, the population is approximately 57% African and 43% European in ancestry.
Given this background, if Cristiano Ronaldo’s great-grandmother was from Cape Verde, it is likely that she had a significant proportion of African ancestry. Here’s a more detailed breakdown:
Likelihood of African ancestry: It is highly likely that Ronaldo’s great-grandmother had African ancestry, considering the average genetic makeup of Cape Verdeans.
Estimated African ancestry in Ronaldo’s great-grandmother: On average, a person from Cape Verde would have about 57% African ancestry.
To estimate how much African ancestry Cristiano Ronaldo might have inherited from her:
If his great-grandmother was about 57% African, then his great-grandmother contributed 1/8 of his ancestry. Therefore, the African ancestry contribution from his great-grandmother would be:
1/8 × 57% = 7.125%
So, based on these averages, Cristiano Ronaldo might have around 7.125% African ancestry from his Cape Verdean great-grandmother.
Isabel Rosa da Piedade is listed as “preta” in this document, which means black in Portuguese:

Interesting find. She was born in Cape Verde. Thus she was arguably a person of color. I believe listing Cape-Verdeans as “African-Cape Verdean” is unnecessary: Cape Verde is in Africa.
It’s a multi-racial country, though, largely settled from other places. There are white, black and mixed-race people in the society. Obviously, affixing “afro-” would be appropriate, here, especially if she’s listed as “preta(o)”.
I have to agree with Andrew here. Today it’s probably hard to find a Cape Verdean who is truly monoracial if they aren’t descended from recent immigrants. They’re not really a “multiracial country” but rather a country of multiracial people, being a mix of West African, Portuguese, Arab, Italian etc.
Then why even bring up the fact that she was listed as Preta if you don’t think it important? What was the point of that?
What do you mean? He was listed as only Portuguese before so it’s obvious that the moderators were unsure if Isabel was black or not. She could’ve had Portuguese parents.
What do YOU mean? You were the one agreeing with Andrew’s comment that we shouldn’t use “African-Cape Verdean.”
What did Diddy do?
Stop shouting. Cape Verdean in and of itself would imply a mixed background, so I agree with Andrew that it would be enough. Cape Verdean wasn’t in his ethnicity before so obviously we didn’t know if Isabel was of Cape Verdean descent or was just born there. That record proved she was a black Cape Verdean (not fully black necessarily but still black nonetheless). Can you really not follow this?
@Follers and/or @Madman,
I would love to see Chris Kleckner on this website. He is TOBY from the Wendy’s commercials :-)

Wait, what do you mean by “again”?” Also I can’t tell if you haven’t gotten my profiles or they aren’t accepted. Nate Thurmond for example is obviously worthy of this site. NBA HOF’er. you and @Follers are very hostile but have very little to back it up.
@jackson
You had to have really pissed off @ethnic to deserve a reply lol.
Andrew, I like and appreciate everything you do for this site. Ethnic is mad that I kept adding Nate Thurmond to this site. I won’t do it again but he has a very distorted view of what a “celeb” is if he doesn’t realize the guys famous. Too busy censoring EVERYTHING I write, having his buddy @Follers curse out my comments, and threaten out of hatred to dissenters. He waited till now to even admit I was blocked two years ago. How courageous!
without his iconic tanning and stylish hair job, he looks pretty standard southern euro, with celtic influence, just like a typical portuguese man, when he played for Man Un. he obviusly did not get much sun since he was in England, and you could really tell he looked kind similar to his british teamates, because theres some anciant overlap between indigenous brittish populations and indigenous iberians
@jackson9
Well, this site is basically a divertissement, at least to me. I dont think the attitude of mods is generally great, no reason for such harsh replies. Anyway Nate Thurnond in a legend of the game…so why not adding him?
I”ll respect ethnic’s wishes and stop adding him. I want to thank you, along with passingtime, bablah, madman and others for your kindness and hospitality. I wish follers would also apologize for saying I should “stfu.” The two admins can hate my guts all they want but I wish they attempted to be fair and balanced.
Ethnic, you should also apologize to @Neil Tennant. you are hostile to him, @Pookerella and many other users just trying to have a good time. #Shame
Btw Isabel was probably mixed-race since Cabo Verde is a very mixed place, she married a white man and had a son, Cristiano’s grandfather Humberto, who was probably white passing. Ronaldo does not look part black at all, he’s at least 90% euro.
