Alexander De Croo is a Belgian politician and businessperson. He has served as Prime Minister of Belgium, since 1 October, 2020. He was also Deputy Minister of Belgium, from 22 October, 2012 to 1 October, 2020, Minister of Pensions, from 22 October, 2012 to 11 October, 2014, Minister of Development Cooperation, from 11 October, 2014 to 1 October, 2020, and Minister of Finance, from 9 December, 2018 to 1 October, 2020, among other duties.
He is the son of politician Herman De Croo and barrister Françoise Desguin. He is married to Annik Penders, with whom he has two children.
Alexander’s patrilineal ancestry can be traced back to his seventh great-grandfather, Adrianus De Croo.
Alexander’s paternal grandfather was Joannes Baptista Alphonsus Josephus “Alfons” De Croo (the son of Franciscus De Croo and Maria Eugenia Verhoeven). Alphonsus was born in Michelbeke, East Flanders. Franciscus was the son of Constantinus De Croo and Felicitas Van Der Bracht.
Alexander’s paternal grandmother was Germana Maria Magdalena “Germaine” Wauters (the daughter of Clement Wauters and Jeanne, or Joanna in Dutch, Henrion). Germana was born in Meerbeke, East Flanders. Clement was the son of Joannes Franciscus “Frans” Wauters and Clara Anna Van Bondt. Joanna was the daughter of an unknown father, and of Thérèse Antoinette Henrion.
