Charles Michel is a Belgian politician. He has been President of the European Council, since 1 December, 2019. He previously served as Prime Minister of Belgium, from 11 October, 2014 to 27 October, 2019, as well as Minister of Development Cooperation, from 21 December, 2007 to 14 February, 2011, and President of the Reformist Movement, from 14 February, 2011 to 10 October, 2014, and again from 18 February, 2019 to 29 November, 2019.

He is the son of Martine Simone Yolande Ghislaine (Pierre) and Louis Michel (Louis Hortense Omer Charles Michel). His father is also a politician, and served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, from 1999 to 2004, and the European Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid, from 2004 to 2009.

Charles’ patrilineal ancestry can be traced back to his fifth great-grandfather, Henri Michel.

Charles’ paternal grandfather was Charles Louis Michel (the son of Jean Baptiste Michel and Marie Emilie Hortense Depus). Jean Baptiste was the son of Charles Louis Michel and Antoinette Loosen. Marie Emilie Hortense was the daughter of Lambert Depus and Maria Catherine Drappier.
