Bruno Mars is an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, dancer, actor, and choreographer. He is one half of R&B super-duo Silk Sonic, with Anderson .Paak.

Bruno is the son of Bernadette del Pedro Bayot and Peter S. Hernandez, both of whom were musically-inclined, his father performing rock and roll and his mother a singer and a dancer. He was raised in Honolulu’s Waikiki neighborhood. Growing up, he was exposed to rock, reggae, hip hop, and R&B.

His father is from Brooklyn, New York. Bruno’s paternal grandfather was Puerto Rican and Bruno’s paternal grandmother was Ashkenazi Jewish, of Hungarian Jewish and Ukrainian Jewish descent. Bruno’s mother was from Manila, Phillippines, and was of Filipino [including Cebuano and Tagalog], and some Spanish [Castilian], ancestry. Through his Puerto Rican line, he has at least 1/256th Italian ancestry.

He was nicknamed Bruno due to his resemblance to professional wrestler Bruno Sammartino.

Bruno is a second cousin, once removed, of Filipino actor Eddie Gutierrez, and the third cousin of Eddie’s children, actors Tonton Gutierrez, Richard Gutierrez, and Raymond Gutierrez, and model Ruffa Gutierrez. Bruno’s maternal great-great-grandparents, Mariano Herranz Heras and Mamerta Cañizares Secuya, were also Eddie’s maternal great-grandparents.

Bruno’s paternal grandfather was Peter Hernandez (the son of Almecio Hernández Aquino and Fabiana Sebastiana Vázquez Garcia). Bruno’s grandfather Peter was born in Río Piedras, Puerto Rico. Almecio was born in Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico, the son of Manuel Hernández Muñoz and Mercedes Aquino Hernández. Fabiana was born in Río Piedras, Puerto Rico, the biological daughter of José Vázquez Romero and María del Rosario García Betancourt, and was adopted by Bernardo Peña Martinez and Rafaela Perosa Gerardez.

Bruno’s paternal grandmother was Mildred Dubov (the daughter of William Wolf Dubovis/Dubov and Bella Berger). William was a Jewish emigrant, from Kiev, and was the son of Sholom Yoseph DuBovis and Malka Weissman. Bella was born in New York City, to Hungarian Jewish parents, Joseph Berger and Louise Wohlberg.

Bruno’s maternal grandfather was Romeo Amando Maria “Eugene” Herranz Bayot (the son of Jesús María Bayot Fuentes and Consolación “Consuelo” Herranz Cañizares). Romeo was born in Manila, Philippines. Jesús was also born in Manila, the son of Gabriel Bayot and Josefa Fuentes. Consolación was born in Segovia, Spain. Consolación’s father, Mariano Herranz Heras, was Spanish, from Nava de la Asunción, Segovia, and Consolación’s mother, Mamerta Cañizares Secuya (or Mamerta Secuya Cañizares in Filipino), was born in Talisay, Cebu, Phillippines, the daughter of Alejo Cañizares Canindot (or Alejo Canindot Cañizares in Filipino), also of Talisay, and of Sabina Secuya Larombe (or Sabina Larombe Secuya in Filipino), of Minglanilla, Cebu. The surname Secuya is also spelled as Sycuya, which is of possibly Chinese origin, but it is not clear if Sabina had Chinese ancestry.

Bruno’s maternal grandmother was named Soledad San Pedro. She was born in Baguio City, Benguet, Philippines.

    I can see the filipino and hispanic in him. Maybe it’s just me. Anyone else?

  2. xoxo says:

    LMFAO there’s a bunch of nasty racists on this site. I thought Bruno was black when I first saw him.

  3. abbracci says:

    Never knew he had Jewish in him :)

    Bruno mars is not black. He is asian, Jewish, Spanish. He could have African admixture but it is low if it is. He probably is more asian, european than anything because his parents don’t have any documented african ancestry. His dad looks European, his mom RIP looked asian. Don’t forget a lot of Puerto ricans have taino, native blood too. Majority are mixed with Spanish, then native then african being least of the mixtures. Puerto Rico today is 75 percent white according to 2010 census. If I didn’t know anything about his ethnic makeup I assumed he was asian.

      @cwm

      Again, I never said he was a black man. I said him being PR it’s. Possible for him to have that heritage.Also from all the Dna test I ‘ve seen including the one you put up, it’s. The naive ancestry that’s. Lowest not the African

        Look at pics of his father and his siblings and see if you still feel the same. His dad looks European, jewish. His mom looks fully asian. This pic makes Bruno loom darker than he is. He’s actually like butterscotch color… he is darker than his siblings… probably because he took more after his mom. His mom was a darker asian woman.

          @cwn

          If you’re asking me if I still think him being PR means he could be part black, then yes his parents outward appearance doesn’t. Change my mind. I ‘ve seen plenty of people who are completely white on the outside, yet are still part black. Look up bliss broyard, she’s. 17% black. Gabrielle Reece is part black, does she look it?

            Fuzzy bear, You are a dumb Afrocentric. You call mixed looking blacks Black but exotic good looking non-blacks half Black. You’re stupid. Get over yourself.

          • fuzzybear44 says:

            @abbracci

            The only person stupid here, is you .First Learn to read what’s actually on the screen, not what your little mind made up. I didn’t call anybody anything. I don’t call anybody anything they don’t call themselves. Saying someone is part black is not the same as saying they are black. Also look at what you said
            Quote:
            ( mixed looking blacks, Black )
            which means you think of them as black people

            Quote:
            ( but exotic good looking non-blacks half Black. )

            You’re deluded, I never said anything like that.

            Also calling me Afrocentric doesn’t do anything to me, so save it

        Bruno Mars look more Native American than Black. Puerto Ricans, Cubans and Dominicans are mostly Spanish not mostly Black.

        • memphis says:

          Due to periods of “whitening” in Latin America, depending on the region European ancestry is high but African ancestry is an essential contribution to the Latino DNA. Many Dominicans,Cubans look African but identify as Spanish or deny any African ancestry. Puerto Ricans are the Caribbean mix of indigenous, African, Canary Islander, Euro and some Middle Eastern.

      actually we all have african blood in us. referring to the eve gene or mitochondrial eve look it up its very interesting. a lot of folks also don’t know that there are black filipinos with course kinky hair as well as spaniards with the same. Shakespeare wrote about them in Othello The moors. Modern day they try to classify them as part of the arab nation the same they do with Egypt. in fact during the times that the mores ruled europe it was in fact “Black” sub saharan looking africans. Now im not goingto give a history lesson all i can say is do some research for yourselves trust me the truth will set you free but only if you are willing to accept the truth. P.S. The way a person looks only tells part of the story. Im louisiana creole my ethnic makeup is very diverse and within my own family we look like the rainbow. Growing up people swore my daddy was white and still to this day people think he’s white with his pale skin and blue eyes. And no none of his parents were white in fact my Grandfather was a very chocolate man and my grandmother carmel color. sorry about some of the run on sentences im extremely exhausted and just typing before i fall asleep so goodnight have a blessed one.

        The Moors did not rule Europe. They ruled parts of Spain and other parts of the Mediterranean such as Sicily and Malta. They tried to invade Gaul (modern-day France) but Charles Martel’s army pushed them out. And they were Arab and Berber.

        • fuzzybear44 says:

          @ AW

          Quote(Arab and Berber)

          Arab and Berber are just cultural names. The Almoravid empire was without question black berbers. All experts say that. Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn Othman was so black, he was nicknamed the The black sultan, and he ruled during the Marinid dynasty. Plus almost all Dynasties employed SSA as mercenaries because many times they didn’t trust their own clans(they were not slaves, you don’t pay slaves, and they were well paid). The Almohads empire, also had many black berber clans in it, plus they also employed SSA mercenaries. Don’t forget (the black guard) and so on. Time changes a lot of things. Germany was also a stronghold for the moors

      Look, if you listen to his music, clearly alot of people can assume he’s black. I know to you being black must be a horrible thing, but luckily & thank goodness not everyone things like u because Bruno clearly idolizes black music & musicians because that’s what he aspires to sound like.

  5. Bow Down Bitches says:

    He’s kind of ugly, but his music is good.
