She is the daughter of Shirley and Thomas Dwayne Williams, Jr. Both of her parents are African-American. Wendy has a son with her former husband Kevin Hunter. She has also been credited as Wendy Williams Hunter.

Wendy’s maternal grandfather was named Samuel Secore Skinner (the son of Isadora Robinson). Samuel was born in New Jersey. Isadora was born in Virginia.

Wendy’s maternal grandmother was Hattie Travis (the daughter of James Byrd Travis and Mary Elizabeth Gillis/Gillus). Hattie was born in Brunswick County, Virginia. James was the son of Daniel Travis and Louisa Wallton. Mary was the daughter of William Gillus and Lucinda Stewart, who were from Meherrin, Virginia.
