He was born Jean Adolphe Fouéré, a French name, because French birth certificates did not allow Breton names; he was also known as Seàn Mauger. Her father left France after its liberation by the Allies in 1945, and moved to Ireland. Yann founded the Breton nationalist Parti pour l’organisation d’une Bretagne libre/”Movement for the Organisation of a Free Brittany,” and co-founded the Celtic League, a pan-Celtic organization, with Alan Heusaff; as well as the regionalist European Free Alliance.

The name Olwen comes from Welsh mythology.

Olwen’s paternal grandfather was named Jean Fouéré. Jean was a civil servant in the Mortgage Department, from Côtes-du-Nord.

Olwen’s paternal grandmother was named Marie Liégard (the daughter of Adolph Liégard). Marie had roots in Callac.
