Kygo was born with a non-native foreign status, in Singapore, to Norwegian parents, Kjersti Gjerde, a dentist, and Lars Gørvell-Dahll, who worked in the maritime industry. His father was working abroad at the time. He was raised in Tønsberg, Norway, and the family also lived in the U.K., Japan, Kenya, and Egypt.
