Derek Jeter is an American professional baseball player. A shortstop, he played 20 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the New York Yankees.

Derek is the son of Dorothy (Connors) and Sanderson Charles Jeter. His father is African-American, and also has some English, and remote Native American, ancestry. Derek’s mother has Irish, and smaller amounts of German and English, ancestry.

Derek is married to model Hannah Jeter (born Hannah Davis), with whom he has four children.

A DNA test whose results were displayed on the show Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates, Jr. (2014) stated that Derek’s genetic ancestry is:

Genetically, he was found to have a common ancestor with comedian and actor Jim Gaffigan, and singer, songwriter, and actress Ciara, the latter at least through Derek’s maternal European ancestry.

Derek’s paternal grandmother was Lugenia Jeter (the daughter of Bustee Jeter and Minnie Palmore). Lugenia was born in Alabama. Bustee was the son of Green W. Jeter and Jane. Green was a Christian minister. He was the son of a white slave owner, James Williamson Jeter, and of a black slave woman, Charity Jeter.

Derek’s maternal grandfather was named William Francis Connors (the son of Mary). William was born in New Jersey.

Derek’s maternal grandmother was Dorothy Tiedemann (the daughter of Thomas Augustine Tiedemann and Agnes Melvin). Dorothy was born in New Jersey. Thomas was the son of Michael Patrick Tiedemann and Frances Cecilia Pierce. Frances’ father, William Charles Pierce, was English, from Manchester.

Hey, here is something I bet a lot of people in here didn’t know. (Because we are too young really lol but thank goodness for research) Roy Campanella (Who didn’t get listed on this website) Had a father that was Sicilian (Italian) and a mother that was Black and he was cinsidered Black and banned from playing baseball until 1947; however he was actually a mixed race person whose dad was an immigrant. I’m bringing this up because he was not only birracial but his parents were married back then.

The question is, which ethnicity does one embrace/proclaim if there are several? Like Barry O’Bama. He is half White. Why does he not proudly proclaim his Whiteness? Eldrick “Tiger” Woods, who is more than 1/2 Asian than Black, of which he is merely 1/4 of. Yet, the press, and him to some degree, claim his Blackness more than anything else.
The thing is also the laws, which are made to provide privilege to minorities over the White majority. If it ever gets to the point that there is only one blended race in this country, then the laws are of no value. Then it begs another question, “why would any race voluntarily breed itself out of existence?”.

wow what a shock the father is black thats never the case in mixed couples.

    • Yeah okay says:

Yes it is. It is just that in more recent decades, white women and black men have been attracted to eachother which was once the absolute most taboo relationship in America. Many white slave owners kept black concubines and had kids with them FACT. Please don’t be fooled by American history class conveniently leaving this out during the American slavery lessons.

    • WTF says:

Rafael are you really that stupid or are you a troll? Most mulattoes have a black father and a white mother. Of course there are some mulattoes with a black mother and a white father, but 9 times out of 10 the mom is white and the dad is black. Both of my parents are mulattoes and both of my grandmothers are white and both of my grandfathers are white. I also have a lot of mixed friends and know a lot of mixed people on Instagram and the majority has white mothers and black fathers. I’m not sure wtf you’re on, but you should stop smoking, idiot.

      • WTF says:

SHIT I meant my grandmothers are white and my grandfathers are black. I really wish the fucking owner of this gotdamn site would stop being so lazy and add a fucking EDIT option.

        • WTF says:

A lot of black women admit that they aren’t attracted to white men and vice versa. It’s rare to find a mixed person with a black mother and a white father. If a white man decides to marry/date interracially he either marries an Asian woman or a Hispanic woman.

It is very difficult to tell someone to forget the past and let it go when you were in fear of your life because of the those racist views. It was ingrained in you. The generation that is coming up now, likely will not carry those same feelings or views because of the so-called changes in society, however, to expect those who have been tramatized throughout their life and family history by this bigotted country cannot just turn off the switch because society all of a sudden felt it is better to not enforce racism outwardly anymore.( Although those feelings have obviously not vanished among some in this country.) Black people who have experienced much racism in either their lives or been exposed to it through the media’s portrayal of blacks can see that racism is STILL alive and well today. It is beautiful that now people are able to identify on job applications and on the census bureau what their ethnic make up is. They couldn’t do it in the past. Now I’m sure blacks back then could say amongst themselves what their background was (some didn’t have to because living in the same community they would’ve known) but in the end the country still viewed them as black. They had to just accept that. The generations now coming up won’t have to. They can now proudly say that they are not only black but white, native american, etc., However, at the end of the day, black people know that no matter what their ethnic makeup is if one of those is black they will never be viewed as an equal. Yes, even today, if you are not considered white society will still think you are lazy, violent, ignorant, loud, ugly, fried chicken and watermelon eatin, etc….Sad but true…Just be proud of who and what you are. Only remember, that for many generations in this country blacks were not allowed to feel that way for themselves or their culture. So, don’t get upset if they feel proud of anyone of african ancestry who is doing well and proving that they are more than what the world portrays them to be.
