Demri Parrott was an American model. She was the fiancée of musician Layne Staley. Demri was the biological daughter of Dennis Wayne Dougherty and Kathleen Ann (Austin) Santos. She was adopted by her stepfather, Stephen John Parrott.

Demri’s biological paternal grandfather was Beryl Gibson Dougherty (the son of Duncan M. “Dunk” Dougherty and Sarah Jane Armes). Duncan was the son of Harrison Riley Daugherty and Rosa Jane White. Sarah was the daughter of Henry W. Armes and Mary Ann Mayberry.

Demtri’s biological paternal grandmother was Dorothy Elizabeth Shotwell (the daughter of John Nathan Shotwell and Nellie Clemens Bretland). John was the son of Nathan Tilton Shotwell and Elizabeth Finley “Lizzie” Smith. Nellie was the daughter of English immigrants Alfred Lancelot Bretland, of Liverpool, and Eva Dean, of Tranmere, Merseyside.

Harry was the son of Dennis Robert Reynolds and Lydia Ann Bliss; Lydia’s maternal grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Violes, was said to be of Cherokee Native American descent, although it is not clear if this has been verified to an absolute certainty. Ethel was the daughter of Dexter Elsworth Austin and Ella Kane.

Is it clear that Mary Elizabeth Violes was Native American? Being a quarter Native American, would Lydia Bliss get away with being white on the census?

And I would’ve expected geni.com to mention it:

These links seem to say otherwise, though:

Demri is also of remote Welsh and 1/64 Native American (Cherokee) descent (through Lydia’s maternal grandmother Mary Elizabeth Violes). Also, please replace German with Swiss-German. Thanks.
