Todd Field is an American filmmaker and actor. He directed the films In the Bedroom and Little Children, both of which he also co-wrote, and Tár, which he wrote. All three films have been highly critically acclaimed, and he has been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Director and Screenplay. Having started out as an actor, he appeared on television’s Once and Again, and in the films Fat Man and Little Boy, Gross Anatomy, Queens Logic, Eyes Wide Shut, and The Haunting (1999).

His family ran a poultry farm in Pomona. They moved to Portland, Oregon, during Todd’s childhood. His father later worked as a salesman and his mother as a school librarian. He has many ancestral lines that have been in New England since the 1600s. Todd is married to Serena Rathbun, with whom he has four children.

Todd’s paternal grandfather was Harry Benjamin Field (the son of Charles Wheelock Field and Mary A. Pettingill). Harry was born in Massachusetts. Charles was the son of David Salathiel Field and Millia/Millie/Milly M. Shaw. Todd’s great-grandmother Mary was the daughter of Harry Benjamin Pettingell and Clara Stimpson Porter.

Todd’s paternal grandmother was Margaret Eleanor Adamson (the daughter of William Ward Adamson and Mabel Jose). Margaret was born in Idaho. William was the son of Henry McQuin Adamson and Mary Ellen Ward. Mabel was the daughter of Thomas Jose, Sr. and Margarita Hallaron/Halloran.

Todd’s maternal grandfather was John Eugene Bettner (the son of Virgil Claude Bettner and Ocie Bell Yealick). John was born in Illinois. Virgil was the son of John T. Bettner and Frances A. Busick/Buseck. Ocie was the daughter of John Spencer Yealick and Elizabeth E. “Lizzie” Hires.

Todd’s maternal grandmother was Margaret Louise Almand (the daughter of Jesse Benton Almand and Jennie May/Mae Sylvester). Margaret was born in California. Jesse was born in Arkansas, the son of Thomas Daniel Almand and Mary Ann Rogers. Jennie was born in Maine, the daughter of John Benson Sylvester and Abbie Ermina Helena Romer.
