His roles included the series Low Winter Sun, Mr. Robot, The Get Down, Luke Cage, This Is Us, Looking for Alaska, Truth Be Told, Lisey’s Story, Law & Order: Organized Crime, and Better Things, the films Paid in Full, Half Nelson, Across the Universe, Glass Chin, Dog Days, The Holiday Calendar, and Dolemite Is My Name; and the made-for-tv movie A Raisin in the Sun (2008). He was also known as Ron C. Jones.

He had a daughter, actress Jasmine Cephas Jones, with British-born jazz singer Kim Lesley.
