Birth Name: Julia O’Hara Stiles

Place of Birth: New York City, New York, U.S.

Date of Birth: March 28, 1981

Ethnicity: Irish, English, German, possibly other

Julia Stiles is an American actress. Her roles include the films Wicked, 10 Things I Hate About You, Down to You, State and Main, Save the Last Dance, O, The Business of Strangers, The Bourne Identity, Mona Lisa Smile, The Prince & Me, Silver Linings Playbook, Out of the Dark, Hustlers, and Orphan: First Kill, and the shows Dexter, Blue, Riviera, and The Lake.

She is the daughter of Judith Newcomb Stiles and John O’Hara. She is married to camera assistant Preston J. Cook, with whom she has three children.

Julia is sometimes described in internet, and other, sources, as having Italian ancestry on her mother’s side. It is fairly certain that Julia’s mother is not of Italian descent. It is not clear if Julia has any Italian ancestry on her father’s side.

Julia’s paternal grandfather was named John Joseph O’Hara. John was born in New York.

Julia’s paternal grandmother was Ethel Harriette/Harriet Kayser (the daughter of Charles Christian Kayser, Jr. and Catharine Mary Joseph Barrett). Ethel was born in Jersey City, New Jersey. Charles was the son of German emigrants, Carl/Charles Christian/Christ Kayser/Kaiser, from Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, and Elizabetha/Elizabeth/Elisabetha Schaefer, from Evangelisch, Bavaria. Catharine was the daughter of Irish emigrants, William Barrett and Catherine/Katie McCarthy.

Julia’s maternal grandfather was Meredith Newcomb Stiles, Jr. (the son of Meredith Newcomb Stiles and Katherine Elizabeth Toof). Julia’s grandfather Meredith was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to American parents, of Colonial American (English) ancestry. Julia’s great-grandfather Meredith was a journalist, and was the son of William Curtis Stiles and Mary Allen Arey Newcomb. Katherine was the daughter of Franklin Pierce Toof and Mary Isabelle White.

Julia’s maternal grandmother was Ruth “Randy” Hunsaker (the daughter of Albert Hunsaker and Dorothea/Dorothy E. Deroner). Ruth was born in New York, and had German and English ancestry. The Hunsaker and Deroner families in Pennsylvania originate in Germany. Ruth’s parents, as well as her maternal grandparents, William E. Deroner and Katie E. Seagreaves, were all born in Pennsylvania. William’s parents were Moses U. Deroner and Amanda Fink. Katie’s parents were William Hamilton Seagreaves and Annie E. Weaver.

  1. Alice says:

Thanks follers I was too engrossed in my trolling to notice it.

  2. Crates says:

she looks Native American/biracial like most “white america”
they don’t see it but to the rest of the world they are very exotic looking

    • Alice says:

If she had Native American ancestry she would definitely claim it but she obviously doesn’t. She looks very European to me.

      • Ryan says:

She does in fact look European (like every other European-American), but there’s something about her face which makes me think there’s some admixture going on.

        • Alice says:

Ryan you should see what some Finnish look like and some other Scandinavians. There are also some British Islanders that have a pseudo Mongolian look.

Have a read of this. It is really interesting.
          http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2012/11/121130151606.htm

          • Ryan says:

What bring Finnish to this conversation when she’s not? Her distinct look maybe do to her Irish side or a small percentage of Native. Doubt she’s part Mongolian.

HOLY MOLY the logic here IMAOO

          • Ryan says:

            *why

          • Alice says:

I was just bring Finnish into it to show that Europeans can have that look. Did you read the article? It is a scientific publication. She apparently doesn’t have any Native American ancestry. Most Americans don’t just like most Australians don’t have Aboriginal blood. I never said she was part Mongolian but scientific genetic studies are finding that North Europeans and American Indians have ancestry from the same source population. That might explain the appearances of some Europeans.

          • Ryan says:

OK again but she’s not. She’s more likely to have Native than Mongolian which is ultimately what you are saying, but denying at the same time.

          • Ryan says:

            Wasn’t worth answering.

AGAIN she is most likely to have Native than Mongolian point blank and simple.

What part are you not understanding?

          • Alice says:

Ryan honestly you are putting words into my mouth. The article above says that North Europeans and Native Americans sometime in the distant past came from the same source population. I don’t know how many times on here people are claiming that some European Americans have NA ancestry because they think they see it in the way they look. Julia Stiles has never claimed NA ancestry it is much more probable that she gets her looks from her actual ancestry which is Irish, English and German.

          • Ryan says:

I see a lot talk about Europeans+Asian mixes etc but none to zilch about Native blood in the average white American. Wonder why that is?

Well, DNA testing shows that the Average White American has 2.5% Native American DNA. African-Americans have 2.9% Native American DNA. Which is a small percent, but to say it doesn’t count or nonexistent is complete bs.

          • Alice says:

I think those DNA tests really need to be perfected. LOL at Larry David’s result.

          • Alice says:

My comments are not going through and I’m really angry that you are saying I’m not Irish.

        • Alice says:

It is stated on numerous sites that her mother is English-Italian and her father Irish-American. IMDB also state this. I can’t find a quote though.

        • Alice says:

No one said it doesn’t count. It’s just that most Americans don’t have NA ancestry. I think most Americans would love to actually have NA ancestry and a lot of celebrities are claiming they do. When their genealogy is checked a lot of them don’t have it. It is a pity that actual Native Americans don’t have as much opportunities.

          • Alice says:

Anyway Julia does not even claim NA ancestry.

          • Ryan says:

AGAIN, the average White American (not only celebrities) are 2.5 Native American.

Going by the test I found this girl can easily be part Native. But can also be her Irish side that gives her that look. Some Irish have a pretty distinctive look.

          • Ryan says:

“Anyway Julia does not even claim NA ancestry.”

            many people don’t

          • Alice says:

Every man and his dog is claiming NA ancestry these days so I’m sure if Julia had it she would be claiming it. It seems to be very popular to have NA ancestry these days.

          • Alice says:

Well people that have no known NA ancestry are coming up with it on those DNA tests. Not just Americans either so I wonder how that can be?

          • Ryan says:

            no one is claiming zilch
this is an official DNA test
            deal with it

          • Alice says:

Ryan a few years ago it was claimed that the Irish & Welsh were actually Basque. I’m sure you are well read on these things. Well more up to date testing has shown that this was wrong. How do you explain Larry David’s DNA test coming up with so much NA ancestry when all his known family are European Jews. That much ancestry would mean one of his Grandparents was a full NA. I think they are still perfecting these DNA tests. It is only early days with this.

          • Alice says:

Regarding the Irish having a “pretty distinctive look” I wonder why that would be? I’m Irish myself and I don’t really notice anything particularly distinctive. With a name like Ryan maybe you are possibly Irish yourself?

          • Ryan says:

            ALICE

it works both ways- going by your logic the link you gave me about northern europeans makes those test completely devoid of any truth.

it’s a small percent and going by looks i believe it.

          • Alice says:

Well as I said regarding the Basque / Irish link they come out with theories and then when new information comes along they have to update. I’m not claiming anything I just showed you an article. You can get what you want out of it.

          • Ryan says:

            No I’m not Irish.
            I am European.
            Play the guessing game! lol

I have no idea why. All I know is that some are dark and have high cheekbones which is apparently common in Ireland.

          • Alice says:

Okay. Yes that is true some of the Irish have high cheekbones. It is most probably common in the rest of the British Isles as well.

Regarding the DNA testing. I’m fascinated by it all but I think there are a lot of amateurs on the net who might not be interpreting the data properly. I also do think they will be more precise in the future. It would be interesting to have an ancestral tree for Julia to see how long her folks have been in the US.

          • Ryan says:

“It would be interesting to have an ancestral tree for Julia to see how long her folks have been in the US.”

            definitely interesting to see

          • Alice says:

Here’s a blog on some of the errors with dna ancestral testing. It is specific to Europeans but I’m sure the same happens with other regions.

If you’re Irish why do you care so much about this subject? If it’s flawed or not what is it to you?

These tests are done by professionals, in fact by AMERICAN professionals. Are you calling your own countrymen liars? Don’t get mad at me and mark me down just cause you can’t face the truth.

The average White American is 2.5% Native point blank and simple. Deal with it and move on.

          • Alice says:

What’s it got to do with me being Irish. I’m still fascinated by people’s ancestry and where we all came from. Why are you so interested yourself? Ryan do you not believe I’m Irish. I’m not American. To be more specific I’m an Irish-Australian. I’m not the one marking people down. In fact I’ve given you the thumbs up on a few of your comments. I don’t really mark people down because I think it is petty. They are actually finding “Amerindian” in Northern Europeans. I’m not saying I agree at all it is not my words. Here’s another blog about it. Knock yourself out reading about it.

          • Alice says:

My mother is actually a Ryan. What a coincidence.

          • Ryan says:

Maybe it has to do with the extreme racism Europeans get on this site. Saying some have slight mongoloid ancestry is something, but implying that every single one has is pure st*pidity. I’m giving them a test of their own medicine and serving it with factual facts, tests done by Americans for Americans. :)

            AGAIN

          • Alice says:

Yes I agree. That is a bit annoying. I’ve been on this site a few years and people claim some ridiculous things about celebrities like Catherine Zeta Jones and Cheryl Cole. You should see the comments on Robert Sheehan’s entry. I’ve had really aggressive comments from people because I said he is fully Irish. Europeans have varied looks. I’m still a bit perplexed about why you think I would claim to be Irish is I wasn’t. My name is Alice as well. I’ve no hidden agendas. If you are trying to put Americans down by claiming they have NA ancestry I don’t think that will work as a lot of Americans would love to have NA ancestry.

          • Ryan says:

These comments are meant for those A$$holes talking SHYT. My intention was not to start trouble, but upon reading bs after bs I can’t stand by and do nothing. I’m a pretty reasonable person, but you can’t reason with racists.

You obviously are very angry. What comments are you relating to? What celebrity? I’d find it interesting to take a look.

The net is a bit out there. Anyone can comment on things. You’ve got to be a bit thick skinned. I don’t mind comments disagreeing but it’s shows very poor form to get personal with people. I’m just talking in general here.

          • Ryan says:

You mean you can do that? You mean this site votes up racist comments towards Europeans?

Gee weez thanks for the tip!

          • Alice says:

I’m actually a European Ryan (or whatever your name is). My comments were not racist. My point was that Julia Styles does not have NA. How is that racist?

Why would I state my nationality in a site full of trolls and liars? And why should I have to state my nationality at all? You creep! You are not Irish. I’m not Irish and even I know not to call Ireland part the the British Isles. ROOKIE MISTAKE TROLL

I most definitely am Irish. You are mad. I’m not the liar you are. I was born in Hollis St Hospital in Dublin, Ireland. You are ridiculous. Ireland is part of the geographic area called the British Isles. I use that term for expediency instead of saying Britain and Ireland. Who is the TROLL. It is not me.

        • Ryan says:

The Irish hate the term “british isles”
I’ve met many Irishmen to know that

Don’t call me a creep. I’ve been completely honest. Don’t you dare accuse me of lying. You have a bloody cheek calling me a liar. You are great at accusing. Everything that I’ve posted has been from scientific journals and blogs as well.

My dad was from Boyle, Co Roscommon, my mother is from Nenagh, Co Tipperary. I was a child when I came to Australia and just because some Irish have a problem with British Isles doesn’t mean they all do. I’ve lived in the Dublin suburbs of Clontarf, Coolock, Swords and Malahide at different times. People might even recognise me from all this. I am most definitely Irish. Why would I claim to be Irish if I wasn’t. My dad would have a word for you Amadan.
